This 150 year old row home positioned on one of East Passyunk's most desirable blocks is a perfect jumping off point for exploring the City of Brotherly Love. The first floor also boasts an adorable kitchen with a kitchen table, open shelving, Smeg fridge and vintage stove. French doors lead you to a small patio perfect for enjoying breakfast or an evening drink under the shade of a willow tree. Climb the original corkscrew staircase under huge skylights up to the second floor where you'll find a bathroom with original clawfoot tub and two bedrooms. The larger bedroom has a queen size sleigh bed while the smaller bedroom has a full size bed, dedicated workspace and Juliette balcony overlooking the back patio. Washing machine is located in the (unfinished) basement.
Amalia has been responsive and helpful, place felt like being home. Very well connected with subway. Few nice coffee places around the area. Worth the price.
Great space in a great location! Was in town for a big event at the Eagles stadium and was only a matter of minutes to reach via the subway station around the corner. Great food spots nearby and a short walk to city center. Amalia was a great host and was very welcoming. Highly recommend!
Amalia was a great host, and her place was in a great location for easy travel around the city. reAnimator coffee is just down the street and the local spot for Vietnamese cuisine, pho 75, is nearby. As others have mentioned, the staircase is narrow at parts, but manageable. We stayed with our 2 kids, and they did just fine. We had an issue with the Keurig machine (which might be resolved by the time of your stay) but opted for the coffee down the street. Amalia is very responsive and amiable if you have any questions or needs.
This Airbnb is very quaint, charming, and aesthetically-pleasing. It's located on a quiet, small street without much traffic or noise, but it's still near a subway station and main road for easy access to Center City. There are shops and restaurants within walking distance as well. It was easy to check in and out. The beds and rooms are comfortable and well-furnished. We especially enjoyed spending time in the cozy living room. Just be aware that you have to be open to the quirks of an old house (steep stairs, creaky floors, vintage stovetop). There's also no microwave, but there is a toaster oven. We enjoyed our stay at this sweet Airbnb and would recommend it!
There's so much to do and see in East Passyunk and it's surrounding neighborhoods. Philly's famed Italian Market with storied eateries and outdoor produce vendors is just a few blocks away. Passyunk Avenue, the local business corridor with many independent boutiques, bars and restaurants is also a short walk. ReAnimator Coffee is located just down the street and Sprouts Organic Market and Acme are grocery stores within walking distance. Columbus Square, our local park, is a block away. In my guidebook I supply many specific recommendations for things to do and see.
If you would like to explore outside of the neighborhood, it's very easy to get almost anywhere in the city from the house. Center City is less than a mile away, you can walk or travel two stops on the subway. Society Hill, where you can visit Independence Mall and the Liberty Bell, is also accessible from the subway station a block away from the house.
East Passyunk is a very walkable neighborhood (WalkScore gives it a walkability score of 98/100). Many grocery stores, restaurants, parks and public transportation are all within easy walking distance. If you will be using public transportation during your stay, the house is located less than a block from a main subway station (Ellsworth/Federal station on SEPTA's Broad Street line) and many bus lines. Ride sharing is also very accessible in this neighborhood.
If you are driving, there is street parking, but pay attention to signs. There are several streets nearby that have unlimited, free parking and others that have time restrictions. Finding an unlimited parking spot where you can keep your car for several days is very easy if you park before 5pm on a weekday but becomes more difficult (not impossible) after 5pm.
