The quay area of East Looe is always bustling with maritime activity because Looe is Cornwall's second largest fishing port; it is connected to the quieter West Looe by a seven-arched bridge built in the 19th century over the River Looe. East and West Looe are connected by a river taxi service. While West Looe boasts a beautiful view across the harbour, East Looe is known for its winding lanes and quaint shops catering to tourists. From the quay, you can walk to Banjo Pier, a great vantage point for seeing Looe Island across the bay and for watching the returning fishing trawlers. Apart from the beach, the area of south-east Cornwall is rich in World Heritage-listed mining landscapes, including Bodmin Moor and the Tamar Valley. Authors like Daphne du Maurier have found inspiration in this part of Cornwall, and much of Bodmin Moor figures prominently in stories about King Arthur.
