This is also home to the Church Lake Aerodrome and the EZ Flyer ultralight float plane. Our guests can take advantage of a discounted rate for a one-hour introductory ultralight flight with Christopher who is a certified ultralight instructor (weather and schedule dependent). We’re also happy to offer up complimentary screenings for our guests at Church Lake Cinematique, our own Dolby certified home theater (schedule dependant) in the main house. Film enthusiasts will enjoy checking out our 35mm projector system obtained from the local multiplex in Bridgewater. The Details (there's also more info to be gleaned from the photo captions!): The farmhouse was built circa 1917 and was the first home in Newburne to have a flush toilet. The entire house has been freshly renovated with a nod to the past and an embrace of the present. The main floor is open concept with plenty of windows, comfortable furniture, and interesting décor. You can stay connected with the high-speed fibre op internet service. A truth window in the living room reveals the original wide wall boards and an exposed wall in the central “History Room” reveals the balloon construction building design and the newspaper wrapped wall studs (with news articles dating back to 1917!). This home is very well appointed and contains most everything any visitor might need. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, please ask as we can likely provide it. The house is equipped with a heat pump that provides AC in the summer and heat in the winter. There’s an oil furnace as a back up during the winter months as well as a wood stove in the living room. There is an electronic keypad with a deadbolt on the entry door. You will receive the code shortly before your booking date. When you enter the farmhouse from the driveway you will notice the original cedar shake cladding on the upper portion of a formerly exterior wall. The entryway, kitchen and bathroom are contained in a shed shaped addition was added sometime prior to 1965. In the entryway there is a coat closet, a small bench seat, wall hooks, barometer, a vintage wall mirror and wooden walking sticks for your use. Kitchen The newly renovated kitchen features cabinetry hand crafted by Hanrahan and Sons and features a gorgeous solid teak countertop (that requires some TLC in order to avoid damage and liquid stains – the use of drying mats and cutting boards on this teak surface is greatly appreciated!) , a Blanco stainless steel apron-front sink, soapstone topped painted maple cabinets, a solid maple butcher block shelving cabinet, a reverse osmosis water filtration system, a Grohe pull out kitchen faucet, a Bosch dishwasher, a brand new Frigidaire refrigerator (with ice maker) and everything you need to prepare a fine meal. If you’d prefer not to cook, you can take advantage of restaurants in Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, New Germany and Bridgewater. We can also provide you with all the items required for a lobster boil including an outdoor propane burner, large pot and lobster utensils upon request. There is a small microwave and a 4-slice toaster. For coffee lovers you can choose from a Black & Decker 12-Cup Thermal Coffeemaker (with brew timer) a stovetop espresso maker, or a French press. We supply local coffee beans and a grinder. Tea lovers will appreciate the stovetop kettle and teapot. You can cook inside on the electric stovetop/oven or out on the deck on the propane BBQ. Food prep is easy with a food processor, hand mixer, and blender. Baking supplies are also provided. There’s a range of cookware including a Paderno roaster, cast iron pans, non-stick pans, a pressure cooker and a wok. There is also a sturdy step ladder to help you reach the upper cabinet shelves. Main Floor Bathroom The primary bathroom on the main floor is full of vintage charm with modern conveniences. The cathedral ceiling and large window add to the spacious feel. The claw foot tub has been lovingly restored to its newfound glory complete with a stand-up or tub height shower head holders and a hinged grab rail for safety. Enjoy a relaxing soak in the tub with the bamboo tub caddy and adjacent bamboo stool. The American Standard Studio toilet has a soft closing lid and is at comfort height. The ample sized pedestal sink pairs perfectly with large wall mirror. Use the electric towel warming rails to dry your bath towels. They are designed for safe usage 24/7 so no need to worry about forgetting to turn them off! The exhaust fan is motion/humidity controlled and is whisper quiet. Plus of course there’s a hair dryer and some basic supplies (shower caps, cotton swabs, makeup removal pads, tampons, moisturizer, shampoo & conditioner, shower gel, toilet paper). History Room This room showcases a curated collection of vintage items either found in the house or obtained locally to correspond with the history of the house. Here you will find background info on the property and local area, tourist brochures, and a collection of books, games and puzzles. There is also a sketch pad, drawing pencils and some drawing guides. You can relax on a lovely vintage sofa or wooden rocking chair. Take some time to read the old newspaper articles wrapping the studs in the exposed wall. The oldest article is dated 1917! The original wood floor has just been refinished. Here you will find a picnic basket and blanket, and a washer toss game (on the floor), and a fishing rod (on top of the bookshelf). Living Room This room leans into more modern décor. The sofa is bright, comfortable, and functional as it converts into a full-size bed that can be topped with a foldable memory foam mattress for added comfort. There are two lounge chairs and overflow seating available from the dining room chair set (complete with memory foam cushions) and a swing seat for little ones. This room features a teak MCM cabinet containing original east coast art, a wood stove, and a large screen smart TV and sound bar which sit on a custom-built firewood storage unit/TV stand. A Bluetooth speaker has also been provided. In the Bay Window you will find a monocular atop an Audubon Bird Guide and an Animal Tracks Guide. The sofa bed memory foam mattress topper is located under the bay window bench seat. The bed linens and pillows are located under the long seat section of the sofa. Dining Room This room bridges the gap between new and old. The solid wood table and chair set seats six and leaves can be added to seat 8 upon request. The chairs have memory foam cushions for added comfort. The Nelson Apple Bubble Pendant provides a welcoming warm glow. The original wood floor has just been refinished. Laundry Room This room was also a pre-1965 addition to the main farmhouse. The washer and dryer are for our guests’ use. Here you will find an iron and ironing board, vacuum, broom & dustpan, mop & pail, and collapsible utility wagon. Laundry detergent and fabric softener are provided. There is also an outdoor clothes-drying rack on the east side of the house. Upstairs The original staircase is steep but has grip strips on the treads and sturdy handrails for safety. There are retractable baby gates at the top and bottom of the staircase. A Nelson Pear Bubble Pendant lights the way after dark. The second floor has a ceiling fan and window fans to help keep it cool during the summer months. A portable window air conditioner is available upon request. Adjacent to the second-floor stair railing is an office nook with a solid wood table and chair (be sure to check inside the desk drawer for supplies!). There is also a nightlight in the hallway. An old linen closet has been converted into a mini washroom upstairs. A stained-glass window and a vintage barn window bring in natural light. A telescope is positioned near the second-floor hallway window but can easily be folded up and brought on hikes if desired. We have also included a star chart and moon phase guide next to the telescope. Our dark sky rating is Class 2 on the Bortle scale which is ideal for stargazing! There are three bedrooms on the second floor, each with its own distinctive door colour reminiscent of “Jellybean” fishing village themed colours. Each bed is made up with quality 100% cotton sheets and comforters and comes equipped with its own alarm clock and power cord complete with six outlets and four USB slots. Towel sets (including striped beach towels) are provided in each bedroom. Bedroom #1 – Primary Bedroom (turquoise door) – situated on the lake side of the house with an adjoining door to the kids’ room, Queen size bed - a tasteful wooden bedframe with a memory foam mattress, TV stand, TV and Blu Ray player.
