索尔兹伯里(Salisbury) · 民居里的独立房间 · 1室1床1.0卫 · 可住2人 · Spacious, eclectic bedroom in Edwardian house
Welcome to the cat house! :) Stay in a comfortable upstairs room with shared bath hosted by a friendly couple and many cats close to downtown Salisbury. The house itself was built in 1900 by a whiskey distiller-turned-bootlegger. Your hosts, Nicole and Steve, are SLOWLY restoring the property and building a sanctuary for the appx. 15 stray cats that frequent the porch & 3 inside. We're excited to host laid-back, inclusive folks who don't mind kitty cuddles. ;) Our place is an Edwardian with many beautiful original features, like flooring and hardware, still intact. It's currently a work in progress we're tackling as a labor of love so expect wood that needs to be refinished, furniture in need of reupholstering, etc. Think comfortable, but not luxurious. Our style is eclectic and whimsical, with unstuffy takes on traditional shapes and items.
So welcoming were Steve and Nicole! Beautiful day to look around fantastic yard and home that takes you back to the 1900's when this (now modernized) home was built. 8 foot windows in our 10 foot high room were impressive to view the yard from. Very affectionate cats will vie for a friendly stroke but will respectfully stay out of your room if prompted. Plenty of room in the full sized refrigerator to store needed cold goods as you are traveling. Great supplies if you've forgotten something and quick snacks available. This couple were so eager to be of assistance if needed yet gave you the privacy without asking. We can't wait to return to a newfound home!
Nicole and Steve are the perfect hosts. They've anticipated and provided many comforts, but respond right away for any needs. There was a shared refrigerator upstairs so I was able to store drinks, leftovers, or snacks I brought. Everything was clean. It was wonderfully comfortable. The cats outside mostly stay put and let you go on your way. Some let you pet them. The inside cats are friendly but typical: some friendly, some aloof. I cannot say enough about this secret Victorian gem in the middle of Salisbury. Every nook and cranny makes your jaw drop at seeing the beautifully preserved history of the house and grounds outside. The bathroom sink is the most unique piece I have ever seen. The wall sconces, inlaid pottery table, and beautiful panel painting call for a closer look. Downstairs, the monstrous doors point to the ceiling height, a reminder of days long ago. Don't miss a chance to stay here. Perfect hosts, beautiful home, should be on the historic register.
we loved staying here! the entire house was wonderfully charming. our room had lots of natural light and the bed was very comfortable. we are also huge cat lovers so we spent lots of time with the indoor kitties and loved spotting the outdoor kittens as well. great price and beautiful house! would love to come back!
Our place is located on 1.5 acres of land and is quite private, given the surrounding shrubbery, despite being so close to downtown Salisbury and major commercial areas! While a work in progress, it features two porches you can relax on with a morning coffee or evening cocktail, watching the cats and hummingbirds. Walking around the pond feels very Secret Garden-esque. Our neighbors are friendly and may share a wave. You might see chickens visit from our backyard neighbors as well!
As we are located at major crossroads connecting the commercial and downtown areas of Salisbury to residential areas, we get a lot of foot traffic and, unfortunately, some litter that we try hard to keep up with. The surrounding area has some disrepair (potholes, abandoned houses) but Steve and I are perfectly comfortable going for walks and meeting folks along the way! The area will soon undergo a major development, as the old Kessler Mill site, appx. two blocks away, is receiving bids for building. We hope developers will be conscious to retain the mixed income living options in the area and make sure current residents are not displaced.
The neighborhood/city is very car dependent.

My partner and I moved to North Carolina from Iowa City, IA in 2020. We now live in Salisbury with our three indoor cats--Fiido, NosFURatu (Nos for short), and Turbo-- and an inherited feral colony! I primarily use AirBnB for conference travel, special occasions, and exploring our new region! Steve and I both love to plan adventures (flat water kayak enthusiasts) and meet wonderful new people!
