You will recognize the island of Pag by its sparse vegetation, due to the strong wind blowing from Velebit, which is why it is often compared to the surface of the moon and Pag itself is called "Moon Island". Due to its salt pans and favorable strategic location, it has been inhabited since the Stone Age, especially during the time of the Greeks and Romans. At its current location, Pag was built in the 15th century according to the plan of the Croatian builder Juraj Dalmatinac. A special place in the cultural history of the city is occupied by Pag lace - protected as a UNESCO intangible asset.
