Ten years ago, the owners Dianora and Luciano, on holiday in Apulia, were fascinated by the scents and colours of this southern corner of Italy. The bond with this territory became so deep that they purchased some land with a 19th century trullo, entrusting the restoration of the entire area to a young architect from San Vito dei Normanni to obtain a unique architectural project. The intent was to provide top-class hospitality, having as a priority the preservation of the authentic countryside of the locality. This is how Villa Dianora was born. The entire plaster-covered building of about 90 sq m stands in a total area of 4000 sq m, perfectly incorporated in a private residential context with breathtaking views of the Ostuni marina, very close to the Sanctuary of Maria Santissima di Belvedere. Entrusted to some of the most renowned local craftsmen, the project was to be definitively completed in March 2023. For this villa, entirely paved with porcelain stoneware and equipped with a photovoltaic system, only hi-tech materials were used for both the interior and for the door and window fixtures, logically oriented towards a low environmental impact. Villa Dianora was also designed to optimally manage the daily exposure to the sun typical of this geographical latitude: an electric bioclimatic awning at the entrance and a classic one at the back ensure shaded areas ideal for alfresco lunches and breakfasts. A short walk from the Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve and the most renowned beaches of the Upper Salento, Villa Dianora is also a good starting point for excursions into the Brindisi hinterland, a few kilometres from the Itria Valley. Interior: The villa has only one floor. Once inside, you come to a large open-plan area with panoramic windows consisting of a sitting room with satellite TV and a super modern kitchen complete with cooking area on one side and worktop on the other. On either side of the living area are the bedrooms and bathrooms: on one side, two double bedrooms with king-size beds sharing a bathroom with shower and, on the other, a twin bedroom and a bathroom with shower. The floor is completed by the laundry room with access from the outside (on the side of the pergola). Air Conditioning only in the bedrooms.

Leaving the A14 Bologna-Taranto motorway at Bari, then taking the SS16 road towards Brindisi-Lecce, the Specchiolla exit leads into the hinterland of a vast area better defined as the Upper Salento which embraces the towns of Carovigno, first, and then Ostuni. Following the signs for the Sanctuary of Maria Santissima di Belvedere you come to the Belvedere district which owes its name to the Sanctuary and includes a dozen or so private residences. This Sanctuary, built in the 19th century on the legendary site of the discovery of a Byzantine effigy in a cave, consists of three parts: the upper church and two underground caves, one of which is the site of the legendary find that gave rise to the tradition of the Nzegna rite. Villa Dianora is close to the towns of Ostuni and Carovigno and despite enjoying a position capable of ensuring absolute privacy, it is in fact only 6 km from the nearest town of Carovigno, from its train station, main shops and bars. Carovigno, in its oldest part, is characterised by striking stone arches and white lime-painted houses which, at the highest point of the town, frame the castle of Dentice di Frasso. On the edge of the characteristic historic centre of Carovigno, the castle presides over the northern gate towards nearby Ostuni and the western side towards the sea. For sea and nature lovers, a trip to the Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve, watched over by a tower dating back to the 16th century, is a must. The Guaceto tower, symbol of the Reserve, is the largest of the so-called “square-based viceregal" towers which were built in Terra d'Otranto during the reign of Charles V to defend the coast from Turkish raids.
