Named after the prominent Beech tree located on the South end of the property. The large grand tree towers over the property creating a beautiful lush green canopy in the spring and summer months while turning a gorgeous golden yellow and bronze in the autumn. In the winter it frames the panoramic view of the Sinclair Inlet and the city waterfront. The land was homesteaded in 1875 by John Mitchell and in 1917 the house was built. Since then, the house has seen several upgrades but all the while still maintaining its original charm. Shiplap on the ceilings and walls, craftsman style woodwork, with a few treasures like original light fixtures, clawfoot tub, and even original doorknobs. The grounds are just as grand as the home. It’s still a work in progress but stands as an amazing landscape for the home. With a magnificent wisteria just outside the dining room door, rhododendrons scattered throughout the property, and even a few fruit trees to name a few plants featured on the grounds. There’s even a mystery surrounding 2 tall concrete structures on the grounds. We have yet to positively identify their purpose. Some say these are 19th century hitching posts while others have said these are barrage balloon tethers used in WWII to defend the military base. Do you know what they could be? As you enter the house and walk through the hallway, you’ll notice a wall of historical pictures displaying some of the history of Beechwood House. This property is rich in history and natural beauty.
