Atatū is close to some of the best outdoor and culinary experiences New Zealand has to offer, but without thronging tourist crowds.
German settlers arrived in the Moutere about 175 years ago and started its reputation for high quality artisanal products. There are vineyards, art galleries, cheese makers, olive oil producers, organic skin product creators, mushroom and berry growers to name a few. A local highlight is the Moutere Artisans Day on Anzac Day and Labour Weekend or the Sarau Festival the weekend before Anniversary Weekend - see their websites for details - celebrating fabulous local produce with open workshops, cool events and music!
If you don’t feel like cooking, the Moutere Inn, the oldest pub in New Zealand, is only a 7-minute drive away. They have great craft beer, all their wines are sourced within 10 km of the Inn and their food is delicious. Award winning Neudorf Vineyard for wine tasting, picnics and cheese platters, is one of our neighbours. The Moutere Hills vineyard (12 minutes drive) also has Forsters, a very good restaurant for lunch or dinner. Heaphy Wines has North Eatery - providing a delicious range of local foods to accompany your wine tasting. In 16 minutes' drive, you can reach the delicious water-front dining and art galleries in Mapua.
Nelson airport is only 30 minutes away by car.
Atatū is 5 km from the Tasman Great Taste Biking Trail (the Dovedale / Neudorf turnoff). We are in a great location if you want to do the circular bike route in stages and have a short break at Atatū to enjoy the Moutere.
Our Guide to Atatū also contains tips for some of the many, many adventure and culinary highlights for visitors exploring the region. In addition, there is a Lonely Planet Guidebook to the South Island at the house, as well as many brochures to browse through.
自我介绍
We are a New Zealand - Austrian family who has lived and worked in Bangkok, Zurich and Singapore over the last 20 years before returning to New Zealand just before Covid hit. A lot of furniture in Atatū was picked up during our travels. We love being back in New Zealand, getting reacquainted with some of its gorgeous spots - but we also love to get back to Atatū whenever we can.
