My husband and I stayed with another couple for one night over Easter weekend. The Castle exceeded our expectations, what a wonderful building and surroundings! Our host John and his associate Laura were extremely friendly and welcoming. Laura even helped us out when we couldn’t get a taxi to go to a local brewery. Both extremely interesting personable people which made the stay extra special.
Really enjoyable night away, experiencing something different to the usual spa hotel. Lots of character in the building and really friendly hosts!!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Braylsham castle. Laura and John were lovely hosts and made sure we had everything we needed. The property is really unique and full of character and has some amazing details that make this a special experience. The dining hall is very spacious to hang out if you are a bigger group. The weather didn’t support us looking around the property but I am sure on a sunny day it will be nice to walk around. Would love to go back in Summer.
This is very special! But of course, an old castle (the materials are old, put together in recent years) has its quirks. It won't be shiny and squeaky clean like a modern hotel, but instead has charm and history in every corner. The drive is a bit stressful if you have a big car and arrive late - probably better to try to come in daylight. No kitchen for guests, but the hosts are very helpful. Be aware the castle is in a wet and muddy valley - bring suitable clothing if you want to have a look around (as you should 🤩).
Booked this place for a unique location/venue for a gathering with friends to wrap up the year. A very warm welcome from the hosts on arrival, immediately set at ease and allowed to feel relaxed and at home at this stunning location. Had the fireplace going in the Great Hall. Cosy living room to retreat back upstairs and nice spacious bedrooms to head to bed in.
Broad Oak, Heathfield, High Weald, East Sussex.
The High Weald is one of England's finest landscapes, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1983. A medieval landscape of wooded, rolling hills studded with sandstone outcrops; small, irregular-shaped fields; scattered farmsteads; and ancient routeways.
It is surrounded by footpaths so you can explore this historic area. There is an adjacent Stone age village and a Roman Iron mine in the field opposite, with many pre and post Roman Bloomary Furnisses either side of the stream.
Car or foot best.
If you don't drive, catch a Train to Wadhurst or then Taxi to Castle.
