Property Summary Robin's Brook in Porlock (Somerset) sleeps up to 4 guests in a quiet location, on a no-through road at the edge of the thriving village of Porlock, in the beautiful Exmoor National Park. It has a large enclosed garden just across the lane. Main Description Robin's Brook in Porlock (Somerset) is a terraced hundred-and-twenty-year-old former quarryman's cottage, offering comfortable and cosy holiday accommodation for up to 4 guests to enjoy this beautiful area. It is a traditional cottage, furnished accordingly. If you're looking for a modern atmosphere and modern furnishings, Robin's Brook probably isn't for you! It's an easy walk into the village, and there's also great walking directly from the door if you wish to explore - the road outside the cottage turns into a bridleway further up the combe, which then leads all the way up to Hawkcombe Head, high on the moors above - a great walk if you are looking for a challenge! Sleeps up 4 guests Two bedrooms, one double and one twin Upstairs family bathroom with over-bath shower Cosy downstairs sitting room with open fire; separate dining room Private and enclosed rear courtyard off the kitchen with table and chairs, and access to a second, outdoor toilet Large lawned garden opposite the cottage, with Hawkcombe stream running down the far side and picnic table Short walk (approx 15 mins) into the village, shops, restaurants, pubs, etc Dogs (2 max) welcome for a supplement of £20 Wifi, heating and electricity included Bed linen and towels are provided Arrive from 4 pm Depart by 10 am Dogs are welcome (2 max) for a supplement of £20. Please do not allow your dogs on the furniture or leave them alone in the cottage. Indoor Description Downstairs there is a cosy lounge with an open fire. There is a separate dining room - we have had to board up the fire place in this room so it is out of action. There's a TV, DVD, lots of books and games for rainy days and lazy evenings in front of the fire. Both rooms have views across the combe. The kitchen is to the rear of the cottage and is equipped with an electric oven, hob, fridge (with ice box), microwave, electric kettle, toaster, and washer-dryer. (Please note there isn't a separate freezer.) Upstairs is the bathroom, comprising shower over the bath, toilet and hand basin. The two bedrooms are also upstairs, one double bed and one twin room, both have views to the front of the cottage and you can hear the stream running alongside the garden at the front. Wifi, central heating and electricity are included. Coal and logs are available in Porlock. (We may be able to provide nets of logs for a small charge if you give us a week's notice.) All bed linen, towels and tea towels will be provided. Please bring your own beach towels if you wish to take them outside the cottage on day trips. Please note, there is no cot, stair gate, or highchair. Outdoor Description Doors from the kitchen and sitting room both open onto the enclosed yard directly behind the property. Access to the second (outside) toilet is from the yard. Just across the quiet lane, a 5-bar gate opens into the lawned garden area, which is for the private use of Robin's Brook guests. One side of the lawn is bordered by the stream which runs down the far side of the garden and therefore children must be supervised at all times. The garden also has a picnic table and a lovely view of Hurlestone Down. Turn left out of the front door for an easy walk to the varied shops, pubs, restaurants, tea rooms and galleries of Porlock. Turn right to walk up through Hawkcombe woods and on to stunning moorland scenery, looking out for red deer and Exmoor ponies as you go. This is excellent dog-walking country and Exmoor has many dog-friendly pubs and tea rooms too. Parking There's a private parking space for one car directly opposite the cottage, with another possible space in front of the garden gate. If you bring bikes, you can take them round to the yard at the back, accessed along the side of "High Bank" further down the road. If you do use that access, please let Mike next door know that you'll be going through his yard. We have a right of way, so this is just a courtesy to Mike. Pets Description Dogs are welcome, and will love Exmoor, just as ours does, but please ensure that they don't jump up onto the furniture, that you clear up any mud or other mess they make, and that you don't leave them alone in the cottage at any time. Restricted mobility Unfortunately, there are steps up into the cottage, and a very tight space just inside the door. The bedrooms and bathroom are all upstairs, and the stairs are also quite steep. Exit in case of emergency Either out of the front door, or out of the back door and down the alley at the back of the cottages. Christmas / New Year The cottage is not available for Christmas or the New Year in 2024. The region Porlock is a wonderful working Exmoor village and boasts three pubs, two grocery shops, a traditional local butcher, chemist, cash machine, petrol station, hardware shop, visitor centre, several art galleries and a range of independent restaurants, shops and tea rooms. Porlock Weir is approximately 1.5 miles from Porlock and is well worth a visit. There's a pub, restaurant, and take-away plus a range of individual shops such as tea rooms, Exmoor Glass, etc. Many of the shops in Porlock and Porlock Weir are open during traditional hours of 9 am to 5 pm, although hours are often extended during the summer season. Conversely, some shops also reduce their opening hours out of season. Minehead is the nearest town, approximately 6 miles from Porlock. Here you will find the larger supermarkets and petrol stations (Tesco, Morrison's and Lidl are both situated on the outskirts of the town and have longer opening hours), most major high street banks with cash machines, plus a range of other shops throughout the town.
Robin's Brook was a gorgeous place to stay, we'd love to book again in the future. It's a short walk into Porlock, which was exactly what we were looking for. Everything was perfect, exactly as described and we felt right at home. Lovely having both a patio space and a garden, which seems very well looked after.
We had a lovely stay. The cottage was bigger than expected and in a lovely location within easy walking distance of central Porlock. The parking was great, and the rooms were all clean and well-presented. The Cottage was cosy and had all the amenities you could want including good wifi! It was great to arrive to find a bottle of wine and flowers on the dining room table and milk in the fridge. This was my first airbnb and I throughly recommend anyone looking to stay here, I expect we will again in the future!
Our week at Robins Brook was as good as could have been expected. The picturesque location, the characterful cottage that was comfortable, spacious and had all the amenities we needed. The peace and tranquillity of the environment made for the perfect base for a walking holiday. There were so many walks that could be started straight from the front door so we barely needed the car all week.
