My family and I (with two small children) spent a long weekend at this fantastically peaceful cottage. James was a great host and was super communicative. The cottage was easy to find, has great parking, and is right in town (close to coffee shop/cafe, bar, ice cream shop). It's on a super quiet street right across from the lake. Everything was as-advertised or better, including the firepit (which we used, along with the included smores kit!) and the canoe! The kids absolutely loved this place and the sweet town of Essex. In addition to the time we spent at the cottage, other highlights of our trip were the Essex Farm and the hike at the quarry!

This was our second time staying in James's units by the lake. We love it there! The location is absolutely perfect: tucked a block off Main Street in Essex village, and a block from the tavern, the café, the restaurant, and the ferry. And when you open the door in the morning, you're looking right across the lake at the mountains of Vermont. James is an excellent host: flexible, welcoming, and eager to be helpful. Not every place offers a s'mores kit.

We really enjoyed our time at the lake. Location was great right on the water and James was a great host!

James was great and really tried to accomodate us. The lake was much higher than expected so we did not have access to the swim dock which was undervwater but obviously that was put of his control. Location is perfect with great views, very quiet and quick walk to the little town of Essex and a nice park for the kids. Rooms were fine, bed was very comfortable and kitchen adequate.
