Butterfly house was a lovely stop on our tour of Nicaragua, we stayed a week and felt right at home. The cats, dogs chickens and rooster made us feel like we had an instant little family! We picked up fresh fish daily just down the road at the beach. The produce truck when by twice a week and we were able to get everything we needed. If you are looking for a private getaway this is a beautiful location.

My boyfriend and I had a lovely stay at Marilyn’s. It’s beautiful and quiet. Full kitchen, even has a oven and washing machine which is nice and hard to come by in nica. Has two precious dogs. Also two cats, one of them Frank will start off testing your patients then soon become very loveable and a cuddle buddy. 10 to 15 minutes drive to different surf breaks. Walking is possible but I would recommend having transportation. Thank you Marilyn

Sherry and I had another great stay at the Butterfly House. It's close to the beach has a great view in a quiet, rustic setting. A great way to get back to the simple pleasures of life.

Marilyn's house was absolutely perfect for a quick getaway to my favorite corner of Nicaragua. Marilyn was an awesome host and made sure everything went smoothly from check in to checkout including adding some great tips on places to visit and she helped get us in contact with a local builder for our own future home. The lofted ceilings and open air design provide a house that feels much larger than it is and allows great airflow for a cool nights sleep even without AC. The house was clean and had everything we needed to enjoy home cooked meals. The views from the patio were stunning and provided a great place to sit and watch the sunsets. The house is situated a short walk to Santa Maria beach and a quick drive to a multitude of great waves all while giving you an authentic Nicaraguan vacation. The neighbors only enhanced the experience. Jose invited us to meet his cows and feed them salt. His friendly dogs Randy and Scooby would stop by to say hello as we were leaving to surf in the mornings. Meriyum and Ruby, Jose's daughters were the highlight of the trip. They were two of the sweetest girls I have ever met and brought us gifts during our stay including a fresh watermelon, mango, seashells, flowers and hand drawn pictures for my girlfriend. Although our spanish is lacking the girls quickly became good friends and would visit daily to play games with my girlfriend, we reciprocated their gifts with toys from the market in Chinandega and saw what true joy looks like. Our stay at Marilyn's truly exceeded all expectations and allowed us to get back in touch with what makes this world such a great place.

If you are looking for a getaway from your hectic schedule, this is the place for you. We spent hours on the porch, swinging in hammocks enjoying the ocean view. Daily walks along the beach to the bay kept us cool in the summer heat. If you get tired of cooking you can walk to a couple restaurants and there are a few more within a 10 minute drive.
