Welcome to Sasuke Lodge! We have lower duplex (3 bedroom for 7 guests) available with share shower/kitchen/dining/Japanese lounge room facility. The owner has 30 years of travel industry experience in Australia. *Only 7 minutes walk (600m) to Ishiuchi Maruyama Ski Resort *A hot spring Onsen is nearby. *Free shuttle bus transfer on request from/to Echigo Yuzawa station *Breakfast available (extra cost) *Discount ski pass, rental available Enjoy a relaxing and comfortable stay! Lower duplex has 3 bedrooms which can accommodate 7 guests Room 1 (Japanese style - 2 western beds / 1 futon) Room 2 and Room 3 (western room - 2 western beds each)

Friendly host, cozy room. But the restroom is quite small.
The premises is bottom storey attached boarding house - more of a hostel / backpackers-style accommodation. The shared kitchen / bathrooms / toilets were not overly inviting, washing facilities were limited, and hot water was turned off one evening when we needed it. I wouldn't recommend this accommodation for family/s or people who need their own private space. The rooms don't have key locks on them and when we stayed the toilets were a little unclean. Because we had a car / parking we could enjoy numerous public bath facilities. It would have been a very difficult week stay without both car and public baths. We left the premises early because the accommodation didn't really meet expectations. Single travellers (ie backpackers) on a budget would be more suited to this accommodation. Hosts are pleasant people and did their best to please although the accom didn't stack up to our expectations.

Echigo Yuzawa in Niigata is only 70 minutes by bullet train from Tokyo though relatively unknown to oversea travellers. The area has rich history and a proud farming area of one of the best Japanese branded rice, Koshihikari. Local people are hardworking, honest and friendly.
There are 48 snow resorts in Niigata prefecture, so you can simply catch a ski bus to visit various snow resorts from Echigo Yuzawa. The area was introduced by Novel prize writer, Kawabata Yasunari as "Yukiguni (Snow country)".
It's not uncommon we experience more than 100cm snowfall overnight during the winter month.
In winter month, we have very limited car parking space (0 to 1).
Please use a bullet train from Tokyo to Echigo Yuzawa station, because we have 10 seater van and provide a free transfer from Echigo Yuzawa station to Sasuke Lodge upon request.
Ishiuchi Maruyama ski resort, 7 Eleven convenience store, local restaurants are within walking distance, but we can provide transfer if available.

Hello, thank you for visiting my page. My name is Rika Rosewarne, I’m a mother and my family loves beautiful Northern Beaches of Sydney, where we live. I have 30 years experience in travel industry and am bilingual in English and Japanese. As I specialise in Japan bound trip as a personal travel manager, I am aware of some difficulties travellers face in my home country Japan, such as English signage, privacy, bedding, bathing and food. We have been spending a winter month every year since 2014 in various Japanese snow field like Hakuba and Myoko, and in 2018 finally found a snow lodge in Ishiuchi near Echigo Yuzawa in Niigata. We loved spending time at this winter holiday house, so much so we decided to operate a snow lodge for oversea tourists. My husband Greg is a typical Australian, easy-going and friendly. He would enjoy talking to just about anyone he meet. He will also tell you everything about various sightseeing places he visited last 25 years in Japan!
