Imagine, as an assignment, someone asked you to write only positive things about a really not-so nice establishment. You were prohibited from out-right lying, but allowed to omit materially important information. This was our experience with the cozy cottages. While nothing in the written listing or photos is outright false, except maybe the favorable reviews, the actuality was a far cry from what we could have possibly expected and we could not stay there even for one night. First, the "cottage" is not a solo, free standing small residential unit on its own tract of land, but is one of maybe 8-10 cottages in very close proximity of each other in a commune/community that is currently operating as a 1-2 star motel complex. (Think sleepaway camp/bunk style living arrangements). If that was clearly depicted in the airbnb listing or in any of the airbnb reviews, I wouldn't have booked here. But, such critical details were not in this airbnb listing. The description of this property as "cozy" appears to be a hidden clue that the business is actually called, now or somewhat recently, "Cozy Cabins Motel" with a mix of online reviews. Second, many of the cottages are located very close to each other. In fact, our private screened-in space was adjacent to a busy parking lot, and certainly not something offering any semblance of privacy. The weird gray curtain separating the motel unit and the "private" porch also was a huge turn-off. Third, the cottage is tiny. Indeed, the photos cover every square inch. Excluding the screened in porch overlooking the parking lot, the cottage is maybe 150 square feet. Fourth, the cottage has a massive bug problem. In order to address the bug problem, the cleaning staff used a commercial-grade highly concentrated bug spray like Wondercide or Pyranha. Unfortunately, the residual bug spray smell is so strong, it's extremely nauseating. In fact, my companion threw up twice in the less than one hour we were in the unit due to the overwhelming smell that didn't dissipate even with the main (unscreened-in) door open. Fifth, even with the use of the heavy duty commercial grade bug spray, bugs crawled over our clothes in the few minutes after we unpacked (why we unpacked given the above conditions is a mystery I can't answer). I wish I thought to photograph this unsanitary condition, but instead of grabbing my cell phone camera, I only screamed and dropped the buggy clothes and ran from the room. Sixth, the price point of this rental doesn't come anywhere close to what it's worth. $564 per night plus fees for this ramshackle bug-infested unit is highway robbery. Seventh, in my opinion, this is not a good choice for couples, seniors, or even college-age kids. I am not sure who would be the right demographic to want to stay here unless the owners significantly reduce the nightly rate. There's so much more in the surrounding areas at a similar, or slightly higher price point, it makes no sense to stay here. We left the unit within an hour of arriving and rebooked locally somewhere else. Even without the promise of a refund, we could not bear another moment in this abysmal situation. Even though I was allowed to check-in early by an otherwise communicative owner, I truly feel lied to about what type of situation I was walking into. Please Beware!!

Our family of four, including two elementary aged kids, had a wonderful stay at the cottage for three nights. Matthew is a very kind, generous and hospitable host and was always available to provide personal suggestions and tips to make our stay even more enjoyable. The cottage is rustic, quiet, well stocked (we wanted for nothing except groceries) and in a prime location to all the main sights and attractions of the East End. We thoroughly enjoyed the large, personal outdoor patio space replete with a good propane grill as well as a spacious covered sunroom which made the cottage seem so much larger. Our kids already miss the cottage, and I’m sure we will be back in the near future!
