By the end of the day, you will all be ready to snuggle up in front of the wood burner with your well-earned treats. For those early morning and late night ‘trips’, there is a sloped enclosed garden, so you know your precious pet will not be able to wander too far. The stone exterior of this property is very attractive. Although you share an entrance with one other property (belonging to the owners), this detached barn still promises tranquillity and privacy within 2.5 acres of land. You enter through the quirky, short, wide door into the lounge/diner with its traditional and comfortable furniture. There is a small, but well-equipped kitchen and two bedrooms that are compact and cosy with exposed beams, sloping ceilings and views of the garden. The bathroom has a bath and shower. The coastline here is well-known for amazing fossil hunting, which kids will love, but this means that not all the beaches are suitable for dogs – some are rocky, whereas others are more paw-friendly with finer shingle. Exmoor (10 miles), however, has plenty of suitable terrain for your hound, with wide expanses of moorland, long winding rivers and dog-friendly pubs and tearooms. Dogs are also welcome at National Trust’s Dunster Castle with its large gardens (12 miles) or on the West Somerset Railway that travels from Minehead (15 miles) to Bishop’s Lydeard.
