A beautiful cottage to stay in. Good comfortable beds. Lovely bathroom and showers. A kitchen with most of the things you’d need if you were self catering. Good food at the Moon inn only a minute walk away and a good Spar supermarket a ten minute walk or two minute drive up the road.
Just spent 4 days in Stoney Middleton . Great location to visit a wonderful area. Cottage cosy and very well equipped for our stay. Parking easy nearby. Pub and fantastic curry restaurant in the village Recommend this stay
A characterful cottage well located for walks from the cottage itself and further afield. Nice touches made it feel a special place to relax in.
The property was in a lovely area close to all the places we wanted to visit. The house was clean and tidy, the kitchen was well equipped for our needs and the bed linen/pillows of nice quality. There was plenty of hanging space for clothes and the walk in laundry cupboard was great to store outdoor jackets/boots. The only negatives for us would be there was no garden area for the dog to wonder, the towels were a bit thin and of poor quality, the living room could have been made more homely with curtains and being able to close the door in the evenings. On arrival the table and chairs outside were covered with dirt and moss from the roof which was not a great first impression. Also a bit disappointed there was no welcome gift on arrival(that has been a first for all our travels). We did enjoy our stay and extended it for another 3 days so thank you.
Stoney Middleton is an interesting and pretty Peak District village. Those who take the time to detour away from the main road with its dark, overhanging cliffs will be rewarded with a wealth of beautiful buildings, little lanes lined with stone cottages, a very unusual octagonal church, and even a little brook running through the streets. In the centre of the village is the beautiful Middleton Hall, a private 17th Century manor house. This was once the home of Thomas Denman, Britain’s Lord Chief Justice in 1832. Thomas Denman built the Bath House opposite, taking advantage of the natural thermal springs that rise there, heating the water to a constant 18 degrees Celsius. The Bath House provided two baths – one for ladies and one for gentleman – separated by a wall. Each bath measures 3m x 4m and is 1.5m deep. The waters were believed to have healing powers.
Grindleford station on the Sheffield – Manchester line is 3 miles North East of Stoney Middleton. Bus route 65 connects Grindleford station with Stoney Middleton (travel time 17 minutes).
