It was my 80th birthday treat to myself. The location on the river is wonderful - the river flowing by, the birds, the peace and quiet, the occasional boat floating by. I did, however, leave a day early... a couple of reasons : I knew it had an outdoor shower and composting toilet, but it was so cold out there at night and the motion detector light would go out every few seconds - a bit disconcerting when sitting on the loo... the other thing was that it was necessary to go out to the road for my dog to do her business, and at night there is no light outside the gate and the terrain is somewhat rough... for this 80 year old's eyes that was quite tricky. Other than that, the place is lovely with very comfy bed and the views of the river from every window!

The River Shack was a perfect get-away. Sunsets were ideal and with a clear night you can see the Milky Way. We loved seeing all the wildlife and people fishing the river. Everyone in the community was so nice and welcoming. The place itself has everything you need for a weekend away. The outdoor shower worked great and composting toilet was easy to use and surprisingly clean. Overall a great experience, thank you both so much!

We really enjoyed staying at the River Shack. It was so peaceful and beautiful and just the right size for 2 people. It’s off the beaten path of the touristy parts of Bandon, but close enough to enjoy the restaurants and all the area has to offer. The hosts were nice and helpful, we recommend staying here.

We reserved The Shack for a visit to Bandon to see relatives and take in a concert, with plenty of discretionary time over several days. Unlike so many motel rooms, The Shack is not a place that makes you want to go someplace else; it's a pleasant, quiet, comfortable private place to just be. And it's minutes away from Bandon's Old Town. It's located on a reach of the Coquille River that housed ship building, shipping, and other maritime activities in the 19th century; pilings in the river are testament to that colorful history. Mary and her husband are friendly folks. When workmen inadvertently shut off our water, Mary resolved the problem immediately. The shower and composting toilet are in an outside enclosure on the large deck, a new experience but not at all problematic. We have recommended this location to our friends and we expect to reserve it again next year.
