The self contained appartment is ideally situated within minutes' walk of one of the most beautiful villages of the Alpujarras, Capileira, a haven for walkers, bird-watchers and hikers, and boasting a vibrant year round scene. The highest and most northerly of the three villages in the Poqueira gorge and with staggering views, Capileira is a great starting point for wild walks in the gorge itself. For more serious hikers, it is a base village to hike up to the rugged beauty of Sierra Nevadas, for an overnight stay in the Poqueira Refugio, and a next day ascent to the Mulhacén peak.
The vilage itself has a selection of restaurants, tapas bars, pizzerias, supermarkets, shops and weekly market. With two bakeries and speciality food shops, guests can stock up on local produce and make a picnic for exploring during the day. The other two closest villages of Bubión and Pampaneira both have a wide selection of shops and restaurants and both can be reached on foot.
Capileira is less than a half hour drive to the town of Orgiva, acknowledged as the 'Capital' of the Western Alpujarras. The larger Friday market is home to both food and crafts and a vibrant 'alternative' scene.
If you fancy a day at the coast, the Costa Tropical beaches of Salobreña or La Herradura are an hour's drive away; sample freshly-caught seafood at the various 'chiringuitos' dotted along the beaches.

We recommend hiring a car from Malaga airport or Granada airport for your holiday in the Alpujarras. Luckily, guests can park their car in the grounds of Los Castaños and set off on foot to the village, should they wish to sample local cuisine in the evenings or browse the shops and go for walks during the day. Parking in the village itself can be tricky as it gets very busy in high season. Buses go daily to Orgiva and on to Granada, should guests wish to avail of this service.
