The Coastguard Cottages at Weybourne are perched on the cliff-top on the Norfolk Coast Path, with uninterrupted views of the surrounding fields and sea. The terrace was built in 1904 and to this day has no mains electricity, reflecting the handsome, solid utility of their original purpose. We have owned number 4 for over 20 years and have always delighted in escaping off-grid. We love the house, the views, swimming in the sea and letting our children run beyond calling distance. (dog heaven) The cottage has three bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen with dining table and woodburning stove and a front room, also with woodburning stove and a piano. There is hot water on demand and the stove and oven are fueled by LPG gas. The electrical supply is by solar panels and wind turbine which charge a battery bank, supporting LED lights, the refrigerator and providing charging for phones and other devices. Though there is no WiFi available, there is a strong 4G signal at the cottage, so you could use your phone or tablet as a hotspot – we take the opportunity for our kids to have time away from screens and to tell work that we are going off-grid! If you are an artist or writer, this is the perfect retreat - an old brick shed makes a lovely outside studio with easel, table and chair. Bedroom 1, upstairs front – super king or twin beds Bedroom 2, upstairs back – double bed Bedroom 3, downstairs – bunk bed (with trundle) Front room – sofas, games and a piano Kitchen – with dining table, LPG oven and stove, refrigerator Outside – parking for 2 cars, fenced front garden, shared backyard, with bbq and picnic bench Heating – wood burning stoves in the kitchen and front room Lighting – portable, chargeable LED lights Views – spectacular!
Exceeded my expectations! We wanted a last minute getaway with our boys & dog and this was just perfection. They played the piano, ran on the beach for hours, we ate seafood in the kitchen by the fire under lamplight (rocky bottoms smoked prawns were divine) , read books, played games, warm bath & warm beds. Just what we needed. Everything you could possibly need is all there in this beautifully decorated cottage. As the Neighbour said - you only need to be here for an hour & you feel calm. Can’t wait to return!
We had a wonderful time here. A beautiful location and the house was exactly as described. We loved the access to the beach. We will definitely be back!
We had a beautiful weekend at this gorgeous cottage by the sea. It's a truly special place and we can't wait to return. Clean and tidy, comfortable beds, great bathtub, lots of cooking apparatus, cosy, warm, great communication with Amanda. Can't rate it highly enough!
We are a family of 5 and had such a lovely stay. Even with no electricity there is plenty of things to keep the kids busy. Beautiful walks and beaches within a few minutes reach. This is such a special place for anyone looking for a beautiful and quiet holiday with the family or friends
The house is perched on a spectacular stretch of the North Norfolk Coast. Weybourne village (with store and pub) is within walking distance and access to the beach is 400m in either direction along the cliff (a 10 minute walk).
The cottage is directly on the Norfolk Coast Path, which passes around the cottage, so is easily accessible (in either direction).
The closest supermarket is Tesco in Sheringham. Sheringham also has a range of other amenities including petrol station, a laundromat, rail link to Norwich and an indoor pool and leisure centre – The Reef.
Distances to :Norwich 28 miles, Holt 4 miles, Sheringham 2 miles, Cromer 13 miles, Cley-next-the-Sea 5.5 miles
To reach the house by public transport, travel from Norwich to Sheringham by train (The Bittern Line) and then take the Coasthopper bus to the village of Weybourne.
