The Coastguard Cottages at Weybourne are perched on the cliff-top on the Norfolk Coast Path, with uninterrupted views of the surrounding fields and sea. The terrace was built in 1904 and to this day has no mains electricity, reflecting the handsome, solid utility of their original purpose. We have owned number 4 for over 20 years and have always delighted in escaping off-grid. We love the house, the views, swimming in the sea and letting our children run beyond calling distance. (dog heaven) The cottage has three bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen with dining table and woodburning stove and a front room, also with woodburning stove and a piano. There is hot water on demand and the stove and oven are fueled by LPG gas. The electrical supply is by solar panels and wind turbine which charge a battery bank, supporting LED lights, the refrigerator and providing charging for phones and other devices. Though there is no WiFi available, there is a strong 4G signal at the cottage, so you could use your phone or tablet as a hotspot – we take the opportunity for our kids to have time away from screens and to tell work that we are going off-grid! If you are an artist or writer, this is the perfect retreat - an old brick shed makes a lovely outside studio with easel, table and chair.
