Highermead House is located on a quiet road, 2 minutes walk from the main town, Camelford. Its very quiet & peaceful, surrounded by farm land. Perfect for those working away from home or visitors hoping to explore Cornwall. Serviced rooms offer a home from home experience, recently renovated to a high standard, comfortable furnishing ( contemporary & vintage) and practical amenities. Location: we are close to Bodmin Moor and the coast - Tintagel, Wadebridge, Bude, Port Isaac & Boscastle. Highermead House has been many things since it was built in the early 1900’s, a gentleman’s residence, hotel, local nightclub and more recently a residential care home for the elderly. Since purchasing the property in April 2023 we have been renovating the property back to its former glory and reinstating comfortable rooms to offer overnight accommodation for contractors, people working away from home and those wishing to explore the beautiful local area. Many areas are still having works completed, which will take many months, however, the bedrooms still offer a comfortable and restful space to unwind and relax.

We had a great time here, lovely, quiet location in what will be an impressive building upon full completion. Complete respect for our peace and quiet, holding off most work until we popped out. The one time we were there with work being carried out, we never even knew it was happening elsewhere in the building. Lovely hosts when we spoke to them, really pleased with the overall stay!

The landscape and coastline of North Cornwall is still largely unspoilt, rugged and remote. Attracting those who love to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Walkers:
There are various walks in the local area that can start from from Highermead House if you wish there is a public footpath a few 100 yards away and we are very close to Bodmin Moor including Rough Tor and Brown Willy, the highest point in Cornwall with its thousands of roosting starlings during the winter months has lovely open moorland to walk any time of the year.
The South West Coast Path is 6 miles away with its craggy coastline, gorgeous beaches and rich marine life and sea birds.
Cyclists:
The moorland roads near us are safe and idyllic to ride. The Camel Trail is perfect for cycling and walking, starting inland at Wenford Bridge (15 minutes from the Highermead House), this follows the river Camel for 16 miles finishing at Padstow which lies beside a stunning estuary and the Atlantic Ocean.
Surfing:
There are many beaches for surfing, swimming and walking such as Polzeath, Trebarwith Strand, Widemouth Bay.
Picturesque villages and Towns:
Fishing villages like Boscastle and Port Isaac (Doc Martin's Port Wenn)
History:
Historical sites and gardens such as Tintagel Castle, Lanhydrock House, Lost Gardens of Heligan and Eden.
Shopping:
There are many independent shops at Wadebridge, Padstow, Launceston and Bude.
We have a variety of booklets, brochures, maps and walking books to borrow to help you decide what to do and where to go.
The main town of Camelford is a 2 minute walk away. You will be able to easily walk to pubs, shops and takeaways. We are also very close to public footpaths where you can enjoy some of the beautiful countryside.
Parking:
We have a large free car park for guest use.
Buses:
There are a variety of buses available to catch within walking distance to destinations around north Cornwall. I have added a photograph in the guest book to help navigate your trip.
Trains:
Our nearest train station is Bodmin Parkway.
