Get away from it all in our Wheelhouse, a converted boat's wheelhouse fitted to sleep 3 people with the wheel and other original features still in place. It has it's own kitchen and seating area, overlooking the ponds and surrounding countryside. Guests also have their own toilet and shower facility. Heating is provided by a wood burning stove which doubles as a hot plate. There are steps incorporated into the design, something to consider if you have small children. Wheelhouse has: • Double bed • 1 x bunk bed • Private toilet/shower/washing area – please note this is accessed from outside the main structure • Original features including ship's wheel • Woodburner in boat section • 12 volts Power & LED lighting • 4G Internet signal • The sleeping and kitchen sections are in separate structures • Outdoor seating area and barbecue
This was such a lovely and fun stay. I love the concept of the different themed glamping homes on this spot on the farm. The wheelhouse has a fun feel, beautiful views from the boat and kitchen (handy in the rain!), a cozy fireplace, a comfy bed, an outdoor space to sit and bbq, lovely layout and design in the bathroom and kitchen, and a well-equipped kitchen with everything you could need. The layout has been done so well - the homes are on a working farm, which was really cool to sometimes hear some sheep or cows in the background, yet it was still distanced enough that you weren't in the midst of the working spaces. Similarly, the glamping homes are well spaced so that you still have your privacy, and yet could run into someone for a quick chat if you wanted to be social. Jamie was very helpful with check in and finding the place! The farm has many facilities available like a kayak and sauna and walks, and even being involved in some of the farming activities if you wanted to.
Poor weather meant we didn’t take advantage of all the possibilities this location has to offer but it was clear a lot of creativity has gone in to making this quirky and friendly site. We enjoyed our stay (slept so well!) and looking to rebook in the summer.
Absolutely amazing place. Feels very secluded but it’s not too far away from smaller towns and shops. Incredible surroundings and amenities. We cooked almost a whole meal out of vegetables and herbs grown at the place, and it was free of charge! The hosts were all friendly and chatty. We can’t wait to stay again!
Shepherds Loch is located in the Aberdeenshire countryside, on a working farm.
Shepherd’s Loch is a short distance away from the lovely coastal villages of Gardenstown, Pennan and Crovie. The hidden coves of New Aberdour and lovely beaches of Banff and Sunnyside are close by, with Cullykhan bay, site of a Pictish fort, also worth a visit. Time it right, and you might be lucky enough to spot a pod of dolphins off the coast!
Aberdeenshire is on the Castle Trail, with Fyvie Castle only 14 miles from Shepherd’s Loch. There are also some local nature reserves well worth seeing - Forvie Sands, Troup Head and the Loch of Strathbeg.
.
For those who enjoy hiking, there are several walks along the disused Buchan and Fortmartine railway line as well as many coastal, woodland and low-level hill walks to enjoy in the area.
For the more adventurous, Lochter Activity Centre and Greenwood Loch offer a wide range of outdoor activities. Both are local to our site.
Shepherds Loch is situated in quite a remote rural location. Guests will need access to a car. There is a local bus service but the service is infrequent.
There is free in site parking, adjacent to the site.
