To get to Likoma island The main Lake Malawi Ferry Illala sails as follows Northbound Fridays departs Monkey Bay 8am arrives Saturday morning at Likoma then on to Nkata Bay and north Southbound Illala departs Nkata Bay 8pm Mondays evening and arrives at Likoma Tuesday early dawn AM Arrive a few hours before departure to buy tickets and board. Two smaller ferries operate between Likoma and Nkata bay around 8 hours one way. Lamani and Makutuwima They leave Likoma Wednesdays and return Thursdays They also Leave Likoma Saturdays and return Mondays Charter flights are available from Lilongwe and other mainland airports around 1 hour flight time
