Lodberries: (Old Norse, hladberg, a landing rock) were used as waterfront stores. A short walk from the town centre and harbour. Historic setting & unique layout, built into the sea. Main rooms look directly over the water & rocky beach, directly opp the house famed as the home of DI Jimmy Perez in "Shetland". Ground Floor: Kitchen with open plan dining area + main bedroom with ensuite shower room/toilet Upper Floor: Large lounge with balcony overlooking harbour area, 2nd bedroom & bathroom The house is located in the historic Lerwick Lodberries. Internally, it has been upgraded and maintained to a high standard. There is a small entrance vestibule, leading in to an open plan dining room with modern kitchen area. The dining area looks towards the island of Bressay, whilst the kitchen area faces to the front. The kitchen is fitted with Neff appliances, including two ovens (one with microwave) an induction four ring hob, fridge, freezer, washer/drier and dish washer. At the sink there is a "boiling water" Quooker tap (care is required as it has the potential to burn if not used with caution!) The hallway overlooks a rear courtyard and boat shed (not part of the property to let). The main bedroom is downstairs, and forms part of the building which is built out into the sea, with two windows directly over the sea/beach area. If you open the window, you can enjoy the sound of the waves breaking onto the rocks on the beach. There is a modern shower room/toilet off the bedroom, constructed in the area that used to the be the entrance to the old North Boats ticket office (the doorway can still be seen from the outside). An open staircase leads to the upper area which has a large open plan lounge with balcony looking towards Bressay. The small Bressay ferry goes back and forward, and all other boats heading to and from Lerwick pass by. There is a 4K OLED Sony TV in the lounge, feel free to login to your favorite streaming service! There is also a newly renovated upstairs bathoom with over bath shower. There is a basement room and an attic which are not included in the stay.
Our hosts went out of their way to accommodate us their communications were terrific. The house is in the perfect location to explore Lerwick on foot and the wider Shetland Island by car. We felt right at home the moment we stepped inside it was very welcoming with great views of the harbour. We enjoyed a wonderful stay.
Fantastic location in a historic building, lots of helpful and interesting books and leaflets in the living room, full kitchen, fabulous views of the harbour (and Jimmy Perez's house!) from the windows, easy parking in the immediate vicinity. We had everything we needed and more!
Beautiful boathouse which has all the amenities for a perfect stay. Location is excellent, only a few minutes walk into Lerwick town centre. Gil was extremely helpful and answered any questions quickly. Excellent place to stay.
This was such an amazing place to stay. Built almost on the sea with the constant sound of the waves, the gulls and from the balcony watching the fishing boats, ferries and ocean liners and the ever changing sky. A few minutes one way and you are in the busy town with the shops, cafes and lanes to explore. A few minutes the other way and you are at the knab, the end of the world with the cliffs, gannets and the sea stretching out in the distance. And the house itself had everything you would need for a most enjoyable stay.
The house is located at the best possible location in Lerwick, right on Commercial street, overlooking "Da Lodberrie" (DI Jimmy Perez house), 100m from Bain's beach, 5 minutes walk to the other side of commercial street. It doesn't get any better than that!
On-street parking is available around the house.
For people that come with the bus: it's a short (350m) walk from the Esplanade bus station.

On September 26th, 2015 at 8:15 we disembarked the MV Hjaltland and arrived to Shetland for the first time. A few weeks earlier we were hiking the West highland way and my wife who is a knitter saw that there is a thing called "Wool Week" in a place called "Shetland". She said that she wants to visit it so I said "Why not?". We fell in love with the place on first sight. We then fell in love with the people. In July 2021 we visited Shetland for the 5th time and fell in love with the South Lodberrie after spending a month at the house. After back and forth discussions with the lovely owners, Ingrid and Mike we decided to buy it. We plan on living at the house most of the year but the house will be available for weekly rentals from the first Saturday on November to the last Saturday on June.
