Stunning 5 storey 3,500 sq ft Georgian townhouse just 5 minutes walk from Margate's Old Town, 8 minutes' walk from the beach, and opposite Tracey Emin's studio and the Carl Freedman gallery. With high ceilings, a large, fully-equipped open plan kitchen/dining room leading out to a walled garden, an opulent living room spanning the width of the house with floor-to-ceiling windows, plus original features, and character and charm in abundance, the house is perfect for groups of friends or family. This beautiful house has been carefully restored to its former glory, with features including a grand entrance hall, cornicing, panelling, wooden shutters, ceiling roses, original staircase and spindles, large wooden sash and bay windows, period wooden floors, ornate wooden doors, original radiators, antique furniture, rugs and light fittings, two freestanding baths (one of which is copper) and multiple period fireplaces. The walls have been lime plastered, as they would have been originally, in unique period-appropriate pigments. In addition to the 5 double bedrooms (two of which have superking beds), there are 3 bathrooms and 2 WCs (housing 4 showers and 2 baths - all with great water pressure and plenty of hot water) plus an additional working loo in the ground floor bedroom, and the house can sleep 10 comfortably. Our main living room on the 1st floor (i.e. the floor above the ground floor), is the pièce de résistance of the house - a large yet comfortable space you can spread out in, sun-filled from the floor-to-ceiling windows, with four large, deep sofas to curl up on, plenty of art, 2 large fireplaces, floor-length velvet curtains and a bay window that looks out over the rooftops of Margate. One of the 5 bedrooms is in the house's annex - a granny flat attached to the house with its own kitchenette with working oven, hob, microwave and sink, and its own separate entrance via the garden. The master bedroom, at the top of the house, besides having an Emma mattress, far-reaching views across the rooftops of Margate, with a glimpse of the sea, an ensuite bathroom and its own TV and writing desk, also has a kettle, microwave and fridge, for when you want to rustle up a little something or make tea without having to go all the way down to the kitchen on the lower-ground-floor. A working wood-burning stove is in the kitchen-diner and there are two WiFi portals in the house to allow full WiFi coverage throughout the building. There are two 50+ inch flatscreen TVs with a full range of streaming services: Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Apple TV, 4od, BBC iPlayer, Now TV. The house is full of books that you can help yourselves to while staying (we both work in publishing) art (we like to support local artists and have pieces from Jose Campos a.k.a. Studio Lenca, Lindsey Mendick, Chris Daniels and CatNeil), and toys for children (we have 2 boys). We also have a snuzpod, bath toys and a bath support for babies, and baby bouncers, clean potties and a highchair which are available on request. Each of the rooms have individual thermostats (and we have an electric blanket should you need it on one of Margate's more wintery nights), every shower is stocked with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel, there's a washer-dryer with washing machine tabs and softener in the annex should you need it, a small but powerful Bluetooth speaker in the main living room if you wish to play music (the radio in the kitchen also functions as a Bluetooth speaker), plus two fridge freezers (one of which is cleared out and cleaned for guests to use), a 6-ring hob, and plenty of cookware and kitchen utensils if you want to cook. There's also a tuned piano in the kitchen and plenty of music if you play, plus a yoga mat in the top bedroom and a range of exercise bands for resistance training (let me know if you'd like to use these and I'll leave them somewhere easy-to-find). The garden is high-walled, with seating and tables, a fountain and mounted lights that create a beautiful ambience on summer evenings: we love sitting out here with a chilled glass of wine. We're moments from all the wonderful things Margate has to offer: Margate's Main Sands is less than 10 minutes' walk from the house, the Old Town just 5 minutes', Dreamland and the Turner are a 10 minute walk, and Dane Park, with its playground, is 5 minutes away. All of which means that all of Margate's fabulous restaurants, bars, cafes, bakeries, shops and pubs are right on your doorstep. We're also 15 minutes' walk from Margate train station and round the corner from Morrisons supermarket and Mill Lane car park, which is free on Saturdays.
