Philippa was on holiday so we were met at the cottage by her parents, John and Jan, who were extremely friendly and welcoming, with lots of local knowledge to share. Not knowing the area, we found getting there and locating the cottage a little stressful, but the warm welcome we received from John and Jan, and the communication leading up to our arrival, was great. The cottage was perfectly equipped for our needs, peaceful and comfortable, and we greatly enjoyed our stay.

The cabin is a beautiful spot in an excellent location for exploring the area. Would stay here again if we're in the area. It's comfortable and well-equipped and had all the facilities we needed for a week's holiday. Philippa and her family were very obliging. We have an electric car, and there is a socket in the shed which you can park outside and we just paid for the power we used. (I just wish Airbnb listings would have a category for that as standard!!). Had a bit of trouble finding it and the mobile data signal is poor, so it's worth making sure you've got directions before you set off.

Had trouble finding it, rung P, described where we were, said ‘yes that’s it, but it wasn’t! didn’t look like ad but wondered if was in garden. She rang ‘where was we’ able to give further instruct. (It was round corner). It’s a converted stable which when done was probably very nice but we had trouble with bedroom window. She said it was hard but once open couldn’t shut it. Patio doors also difficult. Shower powerful but fittings grubby and discoloured. Mirror was old and very dirty. Shower cubicle corroded and door ill fitting. Towel rail rusting and discoloured. Towels awful, grubby blue colour. One had ingrained stain. Bedding/curtains duvet & pillows, mismatched and cheap. We went bought new! Lounge had old fireside upright chair, the arms had knitted pad. 2 seater sofa, TV table with dreary oilskin and curtains. Plenty of crocs/utensils but all old & odd. Wood bench outside Some garden chairs and a fan inside needed. Bedroom really close to road so traffic noise very noticeable

I cannot recommend this highly enough. Hosts on hand but never intrusive. A short drive to Mersea Island beach and shops just a short drive away. Convenient yet the property sits in its own space surrounded by beautiful countryside and open space. I needed space to finish writing a book that's taken months and finally I finished. You do need a car to get to shops but the short drive to Tiptree is worth it. The heating is great, I stayed early in May but it was a chilly wind outside at times so I was cosy with the TV and wifi for entertainment. /DVD and loads of books. Thanks Philippa (and your parents) for a great stay. David
