Stay at one of the most active areas in Dubai-- the Dubai Marina (also known as "JBR"). This area is one of the many centers for shopping with a wonderful boardwalk down the coastline. The Metro is about 1KM away from the apartment but the tram that services the metro is immediately outside of the building.
From the airport, you can come directly by Metro/Tram or taxi (By Taxi its a 40 min ride for about AED 75).
Additionally, you can take the Dubai Metro has a station inside airport. Get down at JLT (Jumeirah Lake Tower) or Damac Station and take the tram to station number 1(Jumeirah Beach Residence 1). The building, Sadaf 8, is immediately adjacent to the tram station.
