The placement of this property in the world is truly magical—the combination of the sprawling lawn, the big shady trees, and the sunny dock, mini-beach, and water access right there was a total lake vacation fantasy! This rental is definitely not your run-of-the-mill situation—the furniture is old and the walls are paper-thin (as noted in the description) so there’s very little privacy, but for my purposes of a fun family vacation of togetherness, that only added to the camp-like, old-fashioned, simple-in-a-good way feeling. Highly recommend as an experience if you love old-school Americana vibes, simplicity, and character in a cabin that still has just enough luxury (the sheets and towels were not gross and the house was extremely clean). The primary bedroom was very large and special-feeling. Also this is a funny thing to love, but there were hooks everywhere to hang things, a personal favorite feature of mine. Loved it.

This is an amazing place! It has a very warm feeling to it, and you get the sense that many great memories were made here. The location is prime, with just a quick car or boat ride into the lovely town of Skaneatles. The lawn was great for the kids to play when we were not on the water. And the water…crystal clear and blue…not what you’d think of when picture what lake water should look like. Incredible! I would highly recommend this cottage! The rustic charm and location are hard to find on Skaneatles.

The setting was lovely and certainly close to town. The porch, the view and the lake were great as was the welcoming bottle of wine! What was disappointing is the fact that the house itself was not conducive to staying inside nor were there any staples available for cooking. We had to purchase spices, paper towels and toilet paper which we have never had to do before in any of the rentals we occupied. The final insult was when we were asked to strip the beds and wash the towels as well as put everything back to as it was. We paid $225 for cleaning services which should have more than covered cleaning and doing laundry. At $568 a night, we expected a bit more than what was offered.

The perfect getaway; quiet and private near the village is hard to find but the cottage does a fantastic job of that. Being on the east getting the afternoon sun with shallow waters allow for warmer than normal water and is great for water activities. The yard is large and flat and with nice tree placement from the road and the lake allowing privacy and quiet. The cottage itself is a gem with lots of character and room for the whole family. The towels, sheets, beds etc were all of great quality and the whole place was very clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

This wonderful original camp on Skaneateles Lake is a treasure. The level grassy yard is perfect for the kids to play on. The beach is private and the water is shallow, making it the perfect spot for swimming and sunbathing. The house has been updated just enough to be comfortable without losing any of its charm. I highly recommend..
