This welcoming 3 bedroom self-catering home is the perfect place to relax, unwind and enjoy the simplicity and charm of an authentic small Spanish village. In the heart of Castello de Rugat, nestled between mountains, hills and picturesque countryside, the location is ideal for people looking for a mixed activity holiday in a non-touristy area of Spain, with lots of excellent walking and cycling routes on your doorstep, plenty to explore, and only 30 minutes from glorious sandy beaches. Our traditional-style Spanish home, El Buen Ocio, offers spacious and well-equipped, ground floor accommodation for up to five people, with 3 bedrooms, a new kitchen and 2 fully refurbished bath/shower rooms. This old house, with some quirky features, has been lovingly renovated both for our own family to use and to share as a rental. Guests love its large comfortably furnished, private patio courtyard, as well as the roof terrace with sun loungers. Both are full of welcoming details and are excellent places for outside dining and relaxing after a busy day. For those wanting to cook outside, there is a traditional, built-in charcoal or wood fired grill/BBQ, with cooking utensils and paella pan provided. The bright, modern kitchen is fully equipped including a slimline dishwasher, induction hob, full oven, microwave, fridge-freezer, kettle and toaster. It has everything you should need for cooking at home. All of the guest accommodation is on the ground floor. This design, together with the thick rock walls, helps to keep the house cool all year. For extra peace of mind, there is air-conditioning in the main, open plan, living space. If the internal doors to the bedrooms are kept open, it will cool the bedrooms too. (Just remember to keep the external doors and windows closed). The three bedrooms consist of one double with a queen size bed, a spacious twin room, where the beds can be pushed together or apart, and a single bed room. All the rooms have dressers, bedside cabinets and lamps, and a wardrobe or hanging rail with coat hangers, plus a freestanding fan in the summer. Bedlinen and towels are provided, as are beach towels in summer. The house is located on a narrow street very close to the historical centre of the small town. It is just a short stroll to a bakery, fruit shop, pharmacy and several small convenience stores and banks. There is a larger supermarket within walking distance as well as a small selection of traditional bars and restaurants. HOUSE LAYOUT The front doors open directly into a wide entrance area. To the left as you enter is the single bedroom and to the right is the twin bedroom. Both have street views from their windows, net curtains and black out shutters. The spacious entryway opens straight into the living and dining room, with comfortable seating for six people in both areas. There is a pellet fire for cooler weather, a fan for hot weather, a small flat screen smart TV, (32”) DVD player, stereo and Wi-Fi hub. Double doors lead from the living/dining room into the modern kitchen. The main bedroom is also accessed here, opposite the kitchen. This bedroom has views into the private patio. A further set of double doors lead from the kitchen onto the large fully enclosed courtyard patio. The washing machine is at the rear of this patio. There’s a second dining table for five people here, as well as outdoor casual seating – perfect for unwinding with a drink or some homemade paella after a busy day hiking or exploring. The patio has been decorated to make it friendly and inviting. Outdoor stairs take you from the patio up to a smaller roof terrace, where two sun loungers offer a place to soak up the rays with a book. A third dining table provides a view of sunset over the hills while you eat dinner or enjoy a night cap. (Additional fold up sun loungers, plus a couple of beach chairs, are also supplied in a cupboard on the patio downstairs). The main bathroom is accessed either through the kitchen or via a door leading from the patio. The shower-room is next to the bathroom and is accessed from the patio.
Die Unterkunft von Gail und Alan war fantastisch. Wir haben uns sehr wohl dort gefühlt und die vor allem der private Außenbereich war ein Traum. Man kann sehr entspannt draußen Essen und die Zeit verbringen. Die Ausstattung des AirBnBs war sehr gut. Wir wurden mit ausreichend Ventilatoren versorgt, die die spanische Hitze erträglich machten. Zudem war vor Ort alles wichtige vorhanden. Man kann sich sehr gut in der wunderschönen Küche selbst versorgen und draußen sogar grillen. Alan und Gail waren immer sehr hilfsbereit, freundlich und offen. Sie waren immer interessiert an unserem Wohlergehen, haben sehr schnell auf Nachrichten geantwortet und haben bei Problemen direkt aushelfen können. Am Ende wurden wir persönlich verabschiedet, was wir sehr herzlich fanden. Insgesamt hatten wir einen wunderschönen Urlaub in einer wunderschönen Unterkunft und können es nur jeder und jedem weiterempfehlen :)
Castello de Rugat is a small authentic Spanish town in the province of Valencia, on the eastern side of Spain, about 30 minutes from the Mediterranean Sea. This part of Spain is mainly an agricultural area, with much of the land given over to orange groves, almond and olive trees.
It is not densely populated and apart from at fiesta time, most of the tourists that do come to the region tend to stay at the coast. The inland areas attract discerning visitors who want to get away from the crowds, to relax and unwind in the natural beauty of the area, to go walking, cycling, climbing, to hear the birds sing and to appreciate the open views.
It is a great location for those wanting to do more than sit on the beach or lie by a swimming pool all day. Here you can have a holiday which mixes time in the countryside, with some beach time and sightseeing without having to fight hordes of people and traffic jams, and at much lower prices than at the coast.
The central town location means you can also walk to a bar in the evening or to the supermarket for food and wine to enjoy whilst you relax in the patio or on the roof terrace.
The house is located on a narrow road with no parking. However there is free on-street parking on the surrounding streets. To get the most out of your holiday, a car is vital. Whilst Castello de Rugat has all the essential amenities such as shops and a few bars/restaurants, to enjoy everything this area offers you will need to be prepared to drive. There are a wide choice of both natural and historical places to visit and stunning, sandy beaches within a 30 minutes drive. The town is close to both main and small country roads, both of which are usually quiet.
Alicante and Valencia airports are both approx 1 hour away.
