I had to be in New Haven for one month. Sascha's place was the ideal place to stay away from home for this long. The room I stayed at was downstairs with a separate entrance through a keypad lock, which was so convenient. This made it convenient to check-in but also coming in and out everyday. There is also privacy of course, and a lock for the door to the rest of the house. The room was also much larger and better than expected based on photos and description. Everything you need was provided in the room: extra bedding/sheets/blankets, many towels, microwave, small fridge, a sink and mirror, heater/air freshener, and more. You use the bathrooms upstairs but it was very convenient to do so. The neighborhood is quiet and safe, and you often see people taking walks outside. It is about 15 minutes drive away from Yale and downtown New Haven area. Sascha is very friendly and kind, and she goes out of her way to help you and make sure you are comfortable. I highly recommend staying here!
I have stayed at Sascha’s a few times before. As always Sascha is a great host. Not only she makes you feel home, she makes you feel like family. She attends to your minutest needs. When I am around, usually that’s my first priority for my stay.
If you are looking for a peaceful and quiet environment, this is perfect. For me, the house was bare minimum. rustic, mid century without updates. The “Africa” room is located in the basement/garage remodel because of that there is a musty smell that comes from the basement and the piping of the sink. The bed is too low to the ground, propped up by blocks and very uncomfortable mattresses. Heating and air is generated through the devices only- Not central heating and air. To get to the bathroom, you have to walk through the basement which has an overpowering smell. There are lots of rules to follow like taking off your shoes, wiping the toilets down, what food you cannot cook in the kitchen area, headphones must be on when using a device, etc. Many of the rules feel like they are more accommodating for the host than the guests. I will not be returning.
