Get ready to experience a Japanese home: you will be sitting on the floor, juggling different slippers or no-slippers at all for different rooms, sleeping on mats (although I missed my bed I must say I never woke up with a back ache). The house had all the comforts necessary and a lot of attention to detail and the host was super friendly, attentive and thoughtful. There were signs hung up in nearly all the rooms asking to keep quiet and we could understand why since once we could hear very clearly our neighbors laugh and talk loudly well into the wee hours of the night. Having a translation app might be useful to understand some of the appliances. We enjoyed our stay and can recommend the experience!

Nous avons passé 6 jours magnifiques dans la maison de makito ! Cette maison traditionnelle offre un grand confort grâce à des installations très modernes et de grandes qualité. On a adoré la salle de bain à la japonaise, les futons très confortables, la petit cour intérieure donnant un esprit très zen à la maison. Le ménage et les équipements étaient impeccables ! Le quartier est aussi très agréable et nos enfants de 8 et 10 ans ont apprécié le parc à côté ! C’est aussi très proche du métro et de la gare un un très beau temple à côté ! Bref c’est le logement idéal pour un séjour à Kyoto ! On a adoré !!!

My friends and I had an amazing stay! Convenient location to walk everything or catch the train. Very helpful instructions and local recommendations. Would definitely stay here again!

Makito was the best host! We are so grateful. The machiya was beautiful, spotless and cozy, and served as a perfect home for our stay in Kyoto. Makito kindly let us stop by and leave our luggage before check in, and was very communicative begkre, during, and after our stay to make sure we were taken care of. We got the best sleep of our whole trip here! Can’t wait to return.
