Tiefencastel is definitely a small, quiet village close to Lenzerheide and super accessible to so many of the incredible things in Graubunden. It has a train station and so it is possible to reach without a car and is well served by post bus. The house is an 8 minute walk from the train station. Lenzerheide is 15 mins by car (18 min by bus), Savognin is 15 mins by car, Davos Platz is 45 by car or train, St Moritz is about an hour by train or road - but the UNESCO world heritage Rhaetian railway train journey is definitely the preferred way. The village has a petrol station with a “top shop” which we find super useful - they sell a really excellent range of products, including local ones and it is open every day of the week from 6 till 9pm including public holidays. For more extensive shopping Thusis is a 15 min drive with Migros/coop/Aldi etc. There is a bakery in town which is really handy and if you feel like a drive the best bread and other delicious treats that we have found comes from the bakery at Casa Caminada in Furstenau (15 min drive). There is an outlet shop for mountain sports equipment in Tiefencastel where they are very friendly, have great prices and will generally do their very best to help you out. As it is run by the local mountain guides association they are good to talk to if you would like any guided services. There are a couple of small hotels. The hotel Albula and Julier have a restaurant offering uncomplicated and decent food at reasonable prices incase you don’t feel like cooking. There is a police station, a couple of banks, a courthouse. There are two churches which are both completely unique and worth looking at. St Stefan is the pinkish one we look at and St Peter Mistail is about a 20 min walk away which has definitely been there from 800 AD and likely quite a while before that. The doors to both are open in the day.
Furstenau 15 mins has one of the two, 3 Michelin starred restaurants in Switzerland, it has a vegetarian restaurant Oz, casa Caminada (casual but high end) restaurant and an excellent bread bakery with a wood oven and small shop.

Car is for sure the easiest and we have parking next to the house. Usually possible to park directly in front of the house too. We also have an extra car park in a parking lot 5 mins walk away if needed. Generally no access issues in winter - all roads are large and maintained. It is entirely possible to get around on public transport for skiing, biking hiking as we have a train station 8 mins walk and this is well served by post bus- Lenzerheide is probably the easiest and biggest skiing/ biking.
