Champosoult · 整套乡村小屋 · 2室4床1.0卫 · 可住4人 · Remote cottage in Normandy countryside
Les Sablons is a charming ‘colombage’ cottage, surrounded by rolling green fields of the Normandy countryside. Les Sablons is a house where you come to fully switch off - there is nobody around and we often joke that rush hour consists of three tractors! It's perfect for a romantic getaway, family fun with children, or lovers of cheese (the house is 4km away from Camembert), or WW2 history. The house is small, but well fitted out and well thought out for you to have a relaxing stay. There's a large log burner, washing machine, dishwasher, numerous books and games, outdoor furniture and a BBQ. The house sleeps 4 comfortably and there is one bathroom. There is parking for one car, two at a squeeze. We allow pets in the house, but please check with us in advance! At the moment there is no Wi-Fi - for us, this helps us to unwind and switch off, promoting a digital detox. Beddings, towels and a bottle of wine are included! Les Sablons is situated in lower Normandy around an hour and a quarter drive from the ferry port at Ouistreham, Caen. Although the cottage is in the middle of lush green fields and valleys, the coast is easily accessible. You can visit the sophisticated towns of Deauville, Trouville and Honfleur, the latter being worth a day’s visit by itself. Further west along the coast you can explore the D-Day beaches, visit Bayeux and Mont St Michel. Houlgate and Cabourg are lovely seaside towns with endless sandy beaches.
Olivia is a great host. The house is neatly cleaned. There is a dishwasher and a washing machine. The weather was of course very grey and cloudy, but what else to expect in Normandy. There are a lot of “ cidreries” in the neighborhood, we went to visit them and buy the ciders and the Camembert ! Be aware that the house is really very remote, so if you want to do some tourist activities you need to drive at least an hour to a bigger city. But once you’re at home in this cozy house you don’t need anything else.
The house is situated in the Pays D’Auge in the south of Normandy next to the village of Camembert, amongst the rolling green fields. Along with the Camembert cows, there are also many apple orchards from which the Normandy cider is made.
We pride Les Sablons on its peace and tranquillity; rush hour consists of three tractors in the morning and the lack of light pollution makes sitting out at night all the more enjoyable.
However, there is plenty do in the area but a car is essential as the nearest town, Vimoutiers is ten minutes away and the coast is just over an hour’s travel.
If you have an historical interest in the battle of Normandy of the Second World War then you will find plenty to interest you in the area. The house is situated at the place where the “Falaise Gap” was closed in August 1944 and there is a small but very interesting museum at Montormel only minutes away.
Then on the coast there are numerous museums and memorials throughout Normandy and which are easily accessible. The following should be on high on a list of places to visit:- Pegasus Bridge, Arromanches and Caen Memorial. There are countless other museums.
William the Conqueror’s castle towers above the town of Falaise; it has been restored with the original stonework alongside modern materials. This has inter-active features and we would recommend it for children. There is a recommended restaurant in the market square.
Try a journey along the coast going east to Deauville/Trouville and then on to Honfleur, a pretty little port town which should not be missed. Then west to Cabourg and Houlgate where the beaches are sandy and huge and worth a day’s stay.
Inland there are amongst many the pretty villages of Beuvron en Auge, Livarot, St Pierre-sur-Dives, Cambremer which are delightful.
There are two zoos in the area which are parkland sites. Jurques Zoo is 20 minutes south-east of Caen and Cerza zoo in Hermival les Vaux near Lisieux.
There is the Festyland amusement park near Caen. The park retraces Normandy’s history in a fun atmosphere. There are aquatic centres in Falaise, Lisieux and a large swimming centre in Argentan.
If you have an interest in horses then you must go to Haras du Pin where the French national stud is situated. The restaurant La Tete au Loup down the hill from the stud is highly recommended.
Then of course there is the Bayeux tapestry and the cathedral at Bayeux. Rouen is an hour’s drive away with its magnificent cathedral.
If you are not worn out by Pont D’Ouilly’s canoeing and kayaking facilities then there are plenty of gorgeous walks in the area.
Thus, the area around Les Sablons has so much to offer and is the perfect place to retreat to in the evenings by the fire, with of course, a glass of France’s finest!
You will need a car to stay at this property.
