New Jan 24! We just finished renovating! Bring your family and friends to this great place with lots of room for fun! Meiringen is a lively town with everything you could need to complete your stay. The train station (in the center of Meiringen) is just a 10 to 15-minute walk away from our home. There are several grocery stores and multiple restaurants and bars, which you can comfortably walk to. The Haslital offers many tourist attractions that you can reach by foot, car, or public transport. In the heart of the Jungfrau Region lies Meiringen, the heart of the Haslital. The birthplace of the Meringue and home to “The Final Problem” of Sherlock Holmes. A town with lots of culture and history. Chili used to work at the tourism office, so she most always has an idea for what to do next. From Meiringen you can easily reach several 100 km of hiking trails! From casual family strolls to advanced hiking with some climbing, there is something for everyone. With five mountain passes leading to Meiringen it is also a great place for people wanting to fit in some cycling into their vacation. In the winter months, there is lots of family-friendly skiing or snowboarding on sunny slopes and a few fun sledding trails on either side of the valley. Meiringen lies between Interlaken and Lucerne, both can easily be reached by train or car. You have a small “basement” apartment in our house, with a private terrace to yourself. It's quite unique as there is a big window in the kitchen and dining area, but because the apartment is partially underground, the other rooms don't have windows where you can see the outside. However, these rooms do get some light from through light shafts. There is one bedroom that does not have a proper window, this is not the main bedroom though, and we just want to inform of this in advance. This room actually used to be an air raid shelter! These were mandatory in Swiss houses until 2012. Just skim through the photos, and you will get a better idea of what the rooms and the apartment look like. We are still working on the final touches, so if you notice something missing or that might make the place better for you or future guests, we would love to hear your input! We recommend the apartment for four people, but there is space for up to six. There are two bedrooms that can sleep two people each and a pull-out couch in the kitchen/living room that can sleep another two (120 cm wide). The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen as well as a laundry room (that only the apartment has access to, it is not shared with us). In the laundry room you will also find a small dishwasher. There is a cozy bathroom with a shower, toilet, and sink. Towels and Linen are included in the price. Yves works almost full time out of the house, and Chili is a full time mom and entrepreneur. Our two little girls are 4 and 2 and keep us on our toes! Yves is half Dutch and half Swiss, born and raised in Meiringen. Chili is full Swiss, but spent most of her time growing up abroad (Belgium, Germany, France, USA). We love to travel and discover new cultures, which is a big reason as to why we would be thrilled to welcome you as guests in our home. We have a 5-year-old dog named Molly, she is a terrier mix that we found as an 8-week-old puppy while traveling in Saint Lucia. In addition to our dog, we have two 8-year-old cats, Mörli and Picasso. Their summers, the cats mainly spend outside, but in the winter months they love to cuddle up in the warmth of the house. These pets might even visit you in the apartment. You are always welcome to send them back outside if they manage to sneak in. We also have two bunnies, Lara and Aladin, that live outside permanently. If you are travelling with kids, or are a bunny lover yourself, you are more than welcome to spend time in their spacious outdoor area. Chili also dog sits almost every day, so there can be quite a few dogs running around in the yard (maximum of 5 though). They are all very friendly and used to kids and people, sometimes however, they might bark as you come into the garden to walk to the apartment. No need to be concerned though, they are all friendly. The dog section is fenced in. You only have to go through there if you want to get to the playground equipment. The dogs are not in the garden all day. As with most places in Switzerland, Meiringen collects a tourist tax. This tourist tax is included in the nightly price. This means we will give you access to the Tourist Card that gives you access to some things for free or a reduced rate. We will be sure to inform you of what benefits this tourist card gets you at the latest once you are here.
