Located close to the Indo-Tibet border in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, Sangla Valley is marked by lush green Himalayas, the gurgling Baspa river, and rustic architecture. It is known for the small Himachali villages of Rakchham– where pink buckwheats bloom in Aug-Sep; Chitkul– Himachal’s sleepy snow town; Sangla– the village of temples and treks; and Batseri– the hamlet of wooden houses.
Zostel Sangla is 1 km from the Sangla bus stand, along the highway. It is easily accessible on foot and by taxis.
By Bus:
Option 1: Direct buses run between Sangla and Delhi, Chandigarh, Shimla.
Option 2: Take a bus to Kalpa and drop off at Karcham. Karcham to Sangla in a taxi (20 km, 1 hr, ~INR 1500).
By Car: From Shimla, continue on NH5 till Karcham. From Karcham, take a right and continue on the Sangla-Chitkul Highway till you reach Zostel Sangla.
From Shimla Railway Station/Airport: 225-240 km, 8 hours, ~INR 6,000-7,000 for a cab to Zostel Sangla.
Note: The roads to Sangla are open, but due to heavy snowfall, there are frequent power shortages in the region.
