The town of St Thomas de Conac is located a few kilometres from the Gironde Estuary, beautifully seen from the ridgeline carrying this pretty and historic place. From the cottage it is a short walk to the local supermarket, boulangerie-patisserie, and bar/restaurant. Mirambeau and Jonzac are a short drive for local shopping.
It is just 30 minutes from Royan with its ocean beaches, good restuarants and great shopping. Also the towns of Jonzac, Saintes (with its Roman Amphitheatre) and Cognac are all available for a day out....Don't forget the pretty islands of Ile d'Oleron and Ile de Re, plus the beautiful sailing town of La Rochelle are also within day outing range.
Thee are many fine dining restaurants in the countryside between, along with excellent inexpensive eateries to keep the budget under control.
Within 20 minutes drive are the small picturesque ports of Maubert and Mortagne sur Gironde, with their cafés and restaurants. Less than 15 minutes drive away is Jonzac with 'Les Antilles de Jonzac', a swimming and spa resort with casino.
There are superb Roman churches to visit at Talmont, St Fort S/Gironde, etc and the Roman town of Saintes is approx. 40km away. Cognac, with its cognac houses of Hennessy, Martell and Courvoisier etc., is 45km away and well worth a visit.
There are local vineyards and fine Bordeaux châteaux of the Médoc, Côte de Bourg, Côte de Blaye and St Emilion to visit. Médoc is accessible by a short ferry ride by car or on foot, from Blaye or Royan.
There are many walks along the estuary and by the woods and vineyards. Canoeing, kayaking and fishing are available on local rivers, there are golf courses at Royan, Saintes and Cognac and a 9-hole course at Montendre (20 minutes drive). There are also tennis clubs in Mirambeau, and horse riding nearby.

Parking is on the entrance drive of Maison Marin. There is also free parking a few metres away at the end of the road.
It is 5 minutes walk to St Thomas centre.
Bicycles can be hired and delivered to your door on request.
