World renowned for being home to the late Helen Martins’ extraordinary “Owl House”, it has also become a popular retreat for artists, writers or those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Craft shops and galleries, potteries and sculpture gardens are scattered throughout the town, and visitors can also enjoy bushman paintings, fossils, climbing, hiking, bird-watching, mountain-biking, horse-riding, game-viewing, star-gazing or stoep-sitting (yes, it’s a thing in the Karoo).

We are in the centre of the village/town so mostly guests walk around the village or you can go by car. Bicycles can also be rented at one of the local restaurants to ride on while exploring Nieu-Bethesda. Stone Haven at Nieu Bethesda has its own private parking behind a locked gate.
