Ballard Farm is situated at the southern part of Co Wicklow near to Brittas bay, the first of the many long sandy beaches which stretch down the coast through Wexford. We are ideally situated with plenty of activites to suit all ages near by.
Wicklow town (10 minute drive) is a charming harbor town with many interesting shops, laid back cafes, and a variety of quality restaurants and an excellent bookshop to stock up on your holiday reading. The historic town Gaol (Jail) is very popular with the older children, some evenings special scary tours are arranged. Other activities for children include a kidszone, bowling alley, swimming pool and marine activities. There is even a celebrity seal called Sammy who swims into the harbour for his early evening meal provided by The FishMan who stocks an excellent selection of fresh fish and seafood. There are a number of local country pubs all within a short driving distance that do meals also.
If you want to get out into the fresh air there is a selection of golf courses from par 3 to international championship courses within thirty minutes drive. World renowned Mount Usher (Robinsonian) gardens and Powerscourt House and garden are also near with many other gardens open throughout the summer. Horse riding is also a popular activity with plenty of trekking centres nearby. Bikes can be rented locally also, although note that whilst the farm enjoys a wonderful elevated aspect, the hills can be tough on the cycling legs so some cycling experience would be recommended!
Brittas Bay is the nearby coastline (6 km) with stunning golden sandy beaches and gentle waves, perfect for a walk any time of year. There is a small surfing school, with classes all summer and usually on the term breaks off season. And if relaxation is in mind there is an superb yoga studio just 3 kilometers from us. They offer a selection of levels and class types and dropins are welcome with a quick call before to check availability.
For the walkers out there Wicklow is a must with routes that will cater for all levels. Going west, inland to the mountains, Glendalough was one of the most important early christian settlements in Europe and makes an inspiring visit with many walking trails, for both beginners and advanced, starting at this point.
Dublin is only an hours drive away although most guests like to opt for the rail route which takes the same time but travels along the coastline.
Back on the farm there are bar-b-qs for your use and most weeks there is some seasonal activity happening on the farm.

Ballard Farm is best accessed by car including all amenities and shops nearby. There is bus and rail transport available from Wicklow town (10 km away) to other local towns with frequent services to Dublin. There is no public transport direct to the farm however. Car rental and bike rental is available in Wicklow town also. Taxis can be rented from Wicklow town and cost an average of 25 - 30 euro to be brought out to the farm. Overall we would recommend having a car, however if you are planning a short stay with nothing more on your mind than to cosy up by the fire with a book let us know in advance and we will do our best to accommodate you.
