Melanthi is located at a very picturesque location, in the village of Makrinitsa in Pelion. It is one of the most beautiful and authentic places in Greece. The village is situated on a hill slope of Mount Pelion, and therefore offers magnificent and panoramic views towards Pagasitic Gulf, the city of Volos and the island of Evia. Just a 2 hour drive from Makrinitsa is the unique area of Meteora, an amazing site with the famous monasteries perched up on top of the rocks, and which is protected by UNESCO. You can also reach the islands of Skiathos and Skopelos by boat in just 2 hours, and in 3 hours the island of Alonnisos. Makrinitsa was built at the beginning of the 13th century at an altitude of 830 meters. The settlement was developed in the following years, and during the last years of the Ottoman occupation, it was thriving thanks to its trade and the tanneries. Makrinitsa was of the first villages that rebelled against the Turks and joined the revolution of 1821. It was also a pioneer in the Thessaly revolution in 1878. Three years after, Thessaly was incorporated into the Greek state. The village has a wonderful climate with low humidity and fresh cool waters. The houses of Makrinitsa are distinguished for its stone roofs and for the rich painting and wooden carved decorations on the upper floors of the buildings, as well as the decorated ceilings and the wooden carved doors and window shutters. A small but crucial detail that gave the village a place at the Guinness Book of Records, is the altitude difference between the first and the last houses of the village, which has the biggest difference in altitude that has been measured internationally. The Church of Panagia is very impressive and its location has lots to see including the large marble fountain with the Arabic verses, the huge centuries old plain tree, the cultural museum, the traditional houses with local architecture that surround the square, the chapel of Ai Giannis and at the central cobblestone square. One of the highlights is the part of the square known as the “Balcony of Pelion” where you can enjoy your drink at a café bar while you have the enjoying the panoramic views of Volos lit up in the night. It is only 7km from Volos, which is a vibrant port city with a population of 150.000 citizens. It is 25 km from the nearest airport, 13 km from the closest beach, and offers magnificent sunset viewu want more decibels for your evening you can head to one of the numerous clubs in Volos, which is just 15 minutes away by car, and where you can have fun until early in the mornings.

The hotel is situated in a central location, just 20 meters from the church and 80 meters from the main square, where all of the events of the local community take place.
If you prefer, in just 20 minutes by car you can be at the closest beach. The most impressive beaches of Pelion such as Ai Giannis, Papa Nero, Milopotamos and Agii Saranta are approximately 45 minutes away by car. One beach that is worth visiting is the Damouhari beach, where the famous movie “Mamma Mia” was filmed. This beach is just 40 minutes away by car.
