Starting off, we arrived at night so we had to circle a few times to find it! But, the check in BEFORE check in process was amazing! We were kept reminded of important things we needed to do before we got there! The host communicated with us everyday up until check in time! It made wverything feel authentic and at ease! When we got there, there was a special treat in the refrigerator that the kids LOVED! The house was amazing! Clean! And comfortable! My family felt like we were at home only we were away from actual home!! We would most definitely book and stay again!! Thanks for such an amazing stay!!!

Absolutely beautiful location! the house was a perfect winter get away and the host was top notch. My favorite feature was the south facing deck & screened in porch. It overlooks the pool and is so pretty. We visited in February so there was very rarely anyone at the pool which made this space perfect for collecting a little vitamin D. The area is pretty remote but there are a couple of restraunts and a store within easy driving range. Gulf Shores is about a 25 munite drive, and like I said, it was the off season so there was no traffic. The remote setting made our stay so peaceful. This brings me to my second favorite part of our trip, the walking. The beach is about a 12 munite walk from the house which I found perfect for exercise. As for the space, it had everything we needed and the WIFI worked perfectly. There were a couple of little cleaning issues when we arrived but otherwise, our experience was great. Host deserves 6 stars for responsiveness.

We’ve stayed here twice and we love it so much! The short drive over to the non busy, but beautiful beach is the best part. Love being hosted by Martha. The sassy bass is a great place to eat. All around a great area and place to stay.

I came to stay at this vacation home for my birthday to visit the annual shrimp festival. The home is nice as described she even left a treat upon your arrival which was nice, but I was disappointed. We was only able to watch one tv, which was the living room tv due to no cable. The other room are not smart tv’s the master bedroom had a odor that wasn’t pleasant, and one of the other room bed was making a squeaky sound every time you sit or move wasn’t comfortable at all. But overall I will say it’s a nice place but need some update on there amenities and beds.

Need to be 25 to Book.
Fort Morgan, Alabama is a great year-around destination for a relaxing family vacation! It’s tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the nearby Mobile and neighboring main resort areas of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Yet these areas are only a short drive or ferry ride away.
With its coastal location combined with breezes off Mobile Bay, year-round average daily temperatures here are perfect for outdoor activities. The area is home to a protected wildlife refuge that features gorgeous sand dunes, coastal marshes, and beaches – not to mention the amazing fishing! And don’t forget about incredible birdlife!
For educational experiences, the area has a rich history full of adventure. From historical military forts built during the civil war to serene natural parks that are home to rare plant species found no where else in the world, there is  always something new to discover
Home to a big masonry fort which offers a tour and educational opportunities. This is a prime location for a hands-on history lesson. This military memorial commemorates important battles during the Civil War. Be sure to spend some time exploring the on-site museum with interesting exhibits about the history of the area as well as the site tours
Explore the Alabama Coastal Birding Trail – This unique trail is home to many bird species which migrate to the area, making it a great place for birdwatching and photography. You’ll find the trail  markers on highway 180.
Take a dolphin cruise throughout Bon Secour Bay – During the summer months, dolphin are extremely active in the area providing great opportunities for sightings.
Rent a boat and go tubing, boating or fishing – If you want to go fishing further offshore, consider charter a boat out of Orange Beach and fish for snapper, mahi, and/or grouper. Get all the information you need from permits to charters here.
Visit the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge and Interpretive Center – There are over 7000 acres and four designated hiking trails to explore here as well as an interpretive center. The Pine Beach Trail is one of my family’s favorite hikes as it end in a secluded stretch of beach. While there stop by the interpretive center to learn about the flora & fauna native to the area, including alligators and other interesting creatures.
Go kayaking – There are countless areas to launch your kayak and explore local waterways. One of our favorite areas to put in at at Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge.  Be sure to pick up a trail map when you visit the center so you know where to go.
Enjoy a round of golf – Kiva Dunes is ranked one of the top public golf courses in Alabama per Golf Digest and Golf Advisor.
Take the Mobile Bay Ferry to Dauphin Island –  This ferry runs daily from early morning to afternoon. It’s a beautiful ride across Mobile Bay and provides great views of Fort Morgan. The Dauphin Island ferry dock is located conveniently close to wonderful attractions like Fort Gaines and the Estuarium
Visit Fort Gaines –  While you are on Dauphin Island, visit this historic fort which paid a significant role during the Civil war. It’s open for self-guided tours of the grounds, several buildings, and the cannons.
Dauphin Island Sea Lab and Estuarium  –  This is a great place for an educational experience. With over 19 miles of trails, you will learn about the coastal habitats and wildlife that call this area home. You can also visit their on-site sea turtle rehabilitation center and research library. For a deeper education experience, book a marine educator-led aquarium tour  with your kids.
Karaoke and Dinner at Tacky Jacks – Tacky Jack’s, located next to Fort Morgan Marina, is a fun place for family-friendly entertainment and waterfront dining. A local favorite for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with live karaoke on Thursday and Saturday nights.
Visit the Gulf State Park – This large state park in Gulf Shores offers trails, a beach, fishing pier, and more! You can read more about my experience on the Backcountry Trail here. The beach here is one of the best beaches in Alabama. Be sure to stop by the lodge for a drink while you’re there – the sunset views from this hotel are absolutely gorgeous.
Visit Weeks Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve – Located in Fairhope, Weeks Bay has plenty of opportunities for fishing, kayaking, and wildlife viewing here.   A walk through the reserve’s wetlands and marsh along the well-maintained paths is highly recommended.
Visit the Coastal Art Center of Orange Beach –  A beautiful art museum displaying area artists is a great stop faway from the beach. Check the class schedule for art classes, as well events in the glass blowing and clay studios.
Visit Mobile Alabama – This historic city is full of history dating back to the Civil War era. There are plenty of things to do in Mobile during your visit including visiting some great museums and restaurants. If you want to see the third of the area’s historic forts, visit Colonial Fort Conde which is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Two minutes to the beach on a golf cart or in a car or a ten minutes walk. Very friendly neighbors.
Local boat storage for fishermen, close by with reasonable weekly and monthly rates. Two close golf courses.Food trucks at Beach club during summer with live music and outdoor activities near main entrance. Karaoke at Tacky jacks.
So much fun stuff for kids to do in town and come home to a safe neighborhood no traffic and kids can roam free and explore all evening. Lots of wildlife to see, bunnies, small crabs running along the road, turtles, frogs all over the houses singing you can hear the alligators in the swamps way behind the community. A family of armadillos. Much much more! Some houses have sand outside so the kids can build little sandcastles while your making dinner. It’s all common area. The game room has fun games in the club house right next to the house . Bring lots of quarters !
The fort is great for a family day out for adults for History but an amazing day out for kids for running and exploring, the beach at the end of the fort has the best shells especially after a storm.

History
The True Story of the ‘Rachel’
Historian John S. Sledge shares the remarkable tale of the antique ship that graces the shores of Fort Morgan.
By John Sledge - July 25, 2016
The Rachel sat docked for several years before being bought and utilized as a lumber schooner in 1923. Photo courtesy of the De Angelo Family Collection
Few things are as intriguing as a wooden shipwreck half-buried in white sand beside emerald waters. Thoughts turn to old salts and peg legs, tall tales and ratlines, exotic ports and loquacious parrots. Alabama’s most famous example, the Rachel, lies five miles east of Fort Morgan between a stilted vacation house and the wrack line, easily visible to beachgoers. This wonderful artifact especially fascinates children and adults from landlocked states. As one Kentuckian told an Associated Press reporter, “We don’t ever see anything like this.”
Speculation as to the vessel’s identity runs the gamut. Was she a pirate ship? A Civil War blockade runner? A rum runner? None of these guesses is unreasonable; all of these vessels are known to have once coursed our shores.
The truth might seem more prosaic — she was an early 20th-century lumber schooner, “like the tractor trailers of today, ” as Mike Bailey, the director at Fort Morgan puts it — but therein lies a compelling tale all its own. To begin with, the Rachel was built not for any practical reason but as an act of filial piety. Captain John Riley Bless McIntosh was a Mississippian with a love of the sea who saved and saved but never achieved his dream of owning a ship. After he died, his daughter, Rachel, took the $100, 000 he’d accumulated to a Moss Point shipbuilder named John De Angelo to fashion a schooner as a memorial. De Angelo was reluctant, knowing the maritime world’s brutal economics, but considering the post-World War I downturn in his business, his sons took the unusual commission. The resulting vessel was large for a three-masted lumber schooner — 155 feet stem to stern and 36 feet in the beam, drawing 12 feet loaded — and looked positively boxy from the stern. Dubbed the Rachel, the completed vessel remained docked, the fees paid by McIntosh’s daughter until her death in 1922. The De Angelo brothers claimed the schooner for expenses shortly thereafter and then sold her at auction.
By late 1923, a man by the name of W.B. Paterson took ownership of the Rachel and hired a Mobile outfit to manage her. This was at the height of the Deep South lumber boom, and in October her new captain and seven-man crew took on a load of yellow pine and made sail for Cuba. They delivered their cargo without incident before heading back home. Rumors that they indulged in a little rum-running could well be true, it being the Prohibition era and Mobile being Mobile, but there is no way to prove it now.
That autumn was a stormy one in the Gulf. As the Rachel sailed north, a massive tropical disturbance extending from Veracruz, Mexico, to the Louisiana coast prompted small-craft warnings as far east as Pensacola. By October 16, the system was rated a minimal hurricane, its center expected to track over Morgan City, Louisiana. For those ashore, the resulting blow ranked as little more than a gusty thunderstorm; New Orleans reported southeast winds of 36 miles an hour; Mobile, 60; Pensacola, 64.
Out on the water, it was a different story. The ships and their crews dotted across the horizon faced the dreaded prospect of a lee shore. In nautical parlance, a lee shore is land toward which the wind is blowing. Ships dependent on sails or low-pressure steam engines that were not far out to sea were likely to be driven aground. Wallowing in the big swells and unable to beat to windward, several vessels including the Rachel were facing serious trouble. On a trip from Tampa to Cuba, the schooner Bluefields was, her captain later reported, “buffeted and battered” for two days before being dashed onto the beach at the Alabama-Florida line. Her crew abandoned ship beforehand, but unfortunately four perished trying to swim ashore. The others made it to the beach exhausted, where they were repeatedly rolled in the surf until able to claw their way to safety, gasping and grateful to be alive.
Further to the west, the Rachel attempted to hold her own by dropping heavy anchors and reducing canvas down to bare poles. One can imagine the terrifying scene — heaving seas, slashing rain, roaring wind, dragging anchors and land ever closer as the small crew cowered on the pitching deck. Being in ballast (without cargo), the Rachel was swept ashore like flotsam and grounded “high and dry.” Happily, her crew remained aboard and was safe.
