Situated between the small market town of Bishops Castle and the village of Clun with its dramatic ruin of a Norman castle, Saxon church, the bustling river which flows under the 14th century pack horse bridge, and a country inn, Clun is a rural gem situated in the South Shropshire Hills. It lies on the Shropshire Way in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty close to the border of Wales, an area known as The Marches. This unspoilt part of Britain has an abundance of wildlife and beautiful unhindered walking and cycling routes winding their way through the countryside with the Clun and Kerry Forests, Offa's Dyke, and Kerry Ridgeway all close by. Shropshire has some delightful small towns such as Church Stretton and Much Wenlock, both with a good variety of individual shops and pubs. Bridgnorth, Ironbridge, Shrewsbury, Hereford, Worcester and Mid Wales are easily accessible. Well worth a visit in the area are the National trust properties of Croft Castle, Powis Castle and Berrington Hall and within easy reach are the popular towns of Ludlow (with gourmet restaurants), Shrewsbury and Ironbridge, all easily accessible with an array of bars, shops, and restaurants.
