Our much loved little cottage is part of a tiny hamlet, located on a winding road out of the village of Morland, which is situated in the Eden Valley. The hamlet is in easy reach of the Lake District, the North Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales. If you love the great outdoors, wild life and being close to a working farm community, you will enjoy the surrounding area.
Wake up to the sheep grazing outside your bathroom window. Occasional passing tractors loaded with hay, horse and carts, Sunday cyclists will wave to you, as you sip a cuppa on our road side bench.
Walk the Wainwright fells, hike in the Pennines, water sports on the Lakes and horse riding are a few activities available in the area. We have had guests stay at the cottage on their way to the Scottish borders and beyond.
From the door there is a charming cobbled stone barnyard, in the summer we have rare tiny fruit bats flying above, House Martin's nesting and a variety of migrating and local birds that swoop down to peck at the cobbles. There is easy access to a public path that takes you through the farmers fields down to the beck with circular walks that lead to the village and the Mill Yard cafe.
Askham is a 7 mile drive which takes you through the Lowther Estate castle and grounds. In the Village of Askham you will find The Queens Head and Punch Bowl Inn, Spa, open air swimming pool and Askham stores.
The town of Penrith is 7 miles away, there you will find large supermarkets, coffee shops, restaurants, bars and independent shops. If you are looking for historical sites, there is Penrith Castle, Brougham Castle and Brougham Hall and many more, north towards the Scottish borders including Hadrian wall. Penrith and the Rheged Centre has a cinema, art gallery with national exhibitions, shops and a petrol station with delicious locally sourced supplies.

Cranesbill cottage is a 10 minute country lane (a bit hilly) walk to the village where these is also some parking. Morland has a beautiful old ford and the Morland beck runs past the Mill Yard cafe (check opening times). Driving is advisable for getting around as public transport is very limited. If you are planning a cycling holiday, there is the main line station in Penrith: Penrith North lakes.
