Nestled in a private sheltered cove on the shores of Killary Harbour, set amidst the spectacular Delphi mountain wilderness, and close enough to enjoy the town of Westport, Bundorragha Cottage is the perfect rural hideaway. Recently renovated, the cottage is very spacious with a cozy, rustic charm. It has 4 bedrooms: a master bedroom with a double bed, en suite and stunning view; a second double room which shares a bathroom with another bedroom which has a bunk-bed (ideal for children); and a twin room with a separate bathroom. There is a large, fully-fitted, modern kitchen ideal for any cooking-enthusiasts. A dining room which is connected to the kitchen has the best view looking out onto the water. The living room has lovely, comfortable seating centred around a big open fire. There is a TV and old antique radio available for you to enjoy. Outside the cottage, there is a picnic area and a BBQ for a nice summer evening. Cot and high-chair available on request.
Amazing place in Connemara, Deirdre was a fabulous host and she even baked us brown bread, gave us plenty of recommendations. We had a great bank holiday with the whole family, thanks a million Deirdre
A beautiful cottage in a serene setting on the fjord. Plenty of room for our family of four. Deirdre was very helpful with recommendations and responsive to questions. We loved the turf fires each evening after a day of touring the area.
An outstanding location at the end of the Killary Fjord. We didn't have a chance to, but a canoe was provided for a paddle. There is an excellent walk straight out the door to an incomparable view of the 12 Bens. Deirdre had a wood fire going for us when we arrived, brought us fresh eggs and she made for us the best brown bread of any we had during our 3 week trip in Ireland. The beds were comfortable. The dining area was bright even on the one rainy day we had there - we spent most of our time there near the large windows. If we had stayed longer, we would have found ourselves sitting near the fire in the evenings. We had terrific recommendations from Deidre who was very promptly responsive to any questions we had. The cottage is charming but spacious, an unusual combination of traits. We were well served by the kitchen - everything we needed. Wandering sheep stayed outside the grounds, but were inquisitive though shy companions on our walks. A warm welcome and enjoyable stay.
The cottage is in one of the most scenic areas of Ireland. Deirdre is a wonderful host, she left us fresh flowers, baked a delicious bread, was really helpful in providing a child’s cot and access to boats and life jackets. This was our fourth time at the cottage and we would love to come back again.
The area is very quiet and picturesque, perfect for relaxation and outdoor adventures. But, there are many local attractions that to keep you occupied.
Delphi valley has special attraction for hill-walkers, geologists, and anyone with an interest in nature. Whether you want to climb or drive, take advantage of the panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
The pier in front of cottage is a great place for fishing or jumping in for a swim, but beware that the water can be cold!
Killary Harbour, where the cottage is located, is the only fjord in Ireland. The Connemara Lady, a boat which travels a few times per day on the fjord, is a popular excursion for visitors who want to see the old Famine village, the beautiful views, and sometimes if you are lucky, dolphins.
Leenane is the nearest village to Bundorragha and is the hotspot for locals. It is the nearest petrol/diesel depot and is 15 minutes away. It is the location for the filming of John B. Keane’s ‘The Field’. Several of the props used are still in place.
If you are looking for a place to eat that is not too far away, the Blackberry Café in Leenane has wonderful, locally-sourced seafood and freshly baked breads for the whole family to enjoy.
Louisburgh is a further village in County Mayo. It is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on three sides- to the north by Clew Bay with its vistas of the mountains of Achill Island, to the west by the wide Atlantic and the islands of Clare, Inishturk and Caher, and to the southwest by Killary Harbour. Louisburgh is 14 miles (22km) from Westport. It hosts craft shops, a seasonal coffee shop, chemist, supermarket, church, police station and many pubs. Carrowkniskey beach, a 10 minute drive from Louisburgh, is a very popular surf beach where you can avail of lessons and rent surf boards for an affordable price.
Westport is our local town and is approximately 35 minutes’ drive from the cottage. It has everything that you should need for your stay – supermarkets, restaurants, parks, shops, pubs, Westport House (includes amusement attractions for children, and beautiful forest walks), and many more fantastic attractions. It has been awarded ‘Best Place to Live in Ireland’, and is especially pretty out by the Quay Harbour.
The Cottage has its own parking area which is free of charge. We recommend that you have a car for your stay in Bundorragha, since the property is rural. The nearest public transport is in Westport which has buses and a train station to the main city in Ireland, Dublin.
