Auchenblae is a small rural Scottish village in Aberdeenshire just under 3 miles from the A90. The village has a small but well stocked convenience store and the Brae Cafe offering breakfast, lunch and takeaway dinner (Fri and Sat) - both are just across the road from the Granary Cottage.
Less than 5 minutes from the Cottage you will find ‘The Den’ which is a large woodland recreational ground consisting of play park, zip line, open air gym, bowling green, tennis courts and picnic area.
Approximately 10 minutes walking from the Cottage is Auchenblae Golf Course. This is a very well maintained, short but demanding, village run 9 hole course perfect for a quick round. Visitors are very welcome and tee times can be booked online.
Drumtochty Forest, ideal for walking or mountain biking, is a 5 min drive away with parking available.
The famous Dunnottar Castle in Stonehaven, where the Scottish Crown Jewels were hidden from Cromwell’s invading army in the 17th century, is only a 20 minute drive away.
If visiting the castle then Stonehaven is well worth a visit with its beautiful harbour, open air swimming pool (open June - Sept), golf course, plentiful bars and eateries and coastal walks.
Further afield, St Cyrus Beach and Lunan Bay both with sandy beaches (and dunes - see photos) are a 25 minute, and 40 minute drive (respectively).
In the winter months, both Glenshee and the Lecht Ski resorts are only 1 hour 30 minute drives away.

Given its rural location, a car is highly recommended to explore the wider area, however there is a limited bus service that connects the village with Laurencekirk and Stonehaven (both of which have train stations for travelling further afield).
