The cottage is located next to the Vjosa River. The Aoos/Vjosa River, spanning the transboundary area of Greece and Albania, is one of Europe’s last free-flowing wild rivers. With the exception of an upstream dam called Piges, the Aoos/Vjosa River flows freely for over 270 kilometres, rippling through beautiful canyons, swirling around vegetated islands and along river braids, and coursing through oxbows and meanders as it makes its way to the sea. What makes this river truly exceptional at the international level is the fact that nearly all its tributaries are free-flowing and intact, creating a unique network of rivers and streams that burst with life.

Several natural springs can be found along the way to the cottage. A few km away, the area provides a cool and refreshing rest stop for weary travelers, a natural attraction known as "Cold Water of Tepelena". There are some good restaurants serving fresh, traditional cuisine, accompanied by fresh water from the springs. Abundant vegetation, and the melody of running water from numerous small waterfalls, complete this relaxing setting.
Among the remarkable monuments is the Tepelena Castle, a 4-hectare (9.9-acre) castle that lies in the southern Albanian town of Tepelenë. It was once an important residence of Ali Pashë Tepelena, a local ethnic Albanian and powerful Ottoman ruler of the Pashalik of Yanina.
