Lilac Cottage is a little bit country, a little bit urban and a whole lot of just the right place. Located in a quiet rural setting, it's the perfect escape without compromising on space, comfort or location. Take a peek and see for yourself! The space sleeps 6, but common living areas are suited for 4. Cottage -1100 sq.ft. Winter Guests: The primary heat source for the main cabin (kitchen, living room) is the wood stove. If you are not comfortable with using a wood stove, this may not be a good fit for you. There is a space heater and portable radiator that can be used if you'd prefer. All the bedrooms, bathrooms and dining area are baseboard heating. Winter storms can lead to power outages which are beyond our control. Welcome to Lilac Cottage located in the quiet corner of Connecticut. However, it’s not always quiet here. There are crickets that sing every night, you may hear owls, other wildlife and road noise. Because it is a rural setting, expect all sorts of insects, wildlife, and at times mice. We do our best to keep nature outdoors, but there is no guarantee nature will not find its way in. If you can't handle nature this is not the place for you. Don't leave doors open or food laying out overnight if you don't want the extra company. They will find a way in if you leave them a picnic. Since this is a rural area, do not expect streetlights on any rural roads. When the sun goes down it's dark outside, unless there is a full moon of course, but then it's still dark, because there are a lot of trees. :) Pine and shiplap walls make up the open concept main cabin with the full kitchen, living, and dining area. Living room has a wood burning stove surrounded by locally sourced hemlock beams. Stove can be used during the cooler months. The perfect evening ambiance in cooler months. There is no central air. Each bedroom has a window a/c in the summer months. Ceiling fans are also in the two larger bedrooms, family room and kitchen. There is no a/c unit in the living room. The Bedrooms: There are no blackout curtains here. The master bedroom is large, quiet and peaceful with vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and private bath. (Entry through adjoining door from 2nd bedroom). The next largest bedroom is home to my favorite, the East windows, that bring in the morning light. It is also home to the not so popular work desk. This bedroom and the master are adjoining rooms with a frosted glass door between them. You need to walk through this room to get to the master, something to consider if you are not travelling with family or want more privacy. This 2nd bedroom has an adjoining glass door to the dining room that is not frosted but has a curtain for privacy. If privacy is priority, the above are things to consider before booking. The third bedroom is off the main cabin. While not as spacious as the others, it has a warm and cozy cabin charm. The Bathrooms: modern/updated: The master bedroom has a walk-in shower and dual sinks. (Note: The bathroom will not accommodate a wheelchair). The second full bathroom has a tub/shower combo. The Kitchen: Euro style soft close cabinets, butcher-block counters, full-size refrigerator, gas range, microwave, dishwasher and Keurig coffee maker for morning brews, espresso or lattes. Fully equipped with all the cooking utensil necessities. Full-size washer and dryer is off the kitchen, laundry essentials provided. Outdoor patio space has a dining table for six, propane gas BBQ, fire pit/fire pit-wood not included. Yard Maintenance is done bi-weekly (approximately 15 minutes per visit). They have been asked not to come on weekends (Saturday/Sunday). Service days vary based on weather and they may come during your stay. What we provide: Cooking oil, salt & pepper, caffeinated coffee pods, a variety of tea, sugar packets, TP, paper towels, dish washer pods, laundry essentials, cleaning supplies, extra linens, blankets, pillows, bath towels and BBQ propane, wood for woodstove in cooler months. What we don’t provide: Personal toiletries, groceries, beach towels, wood for the outdoor fire pit. The cottage is located on just over half an acre and is a fairly private and quiet location. It is a popular area for cyclists and motorcycle enthusiasts so expect to see them cruise by especially during the summer months. This property may not be suitable for children. This cottage has not been child proofed. There are no safety latches on any doors or cabinet doors. There are no outlet covers. Glass and cleaning items are within reach of children. The entire property is unfenced and is bordered by two roads and one private lane. There are unfenced wetlands at the rear of the property. This is a rural area and the only place you can walk, is to the driveway where you parked your vehicle. You are of course, welcome to walk along the roads (not marked as private) and enjoy the scenery. However, these country roads have no sidewalks, are narrow and some motorists along these roads drive very fast. Any questions not addressed, feel free to ask.
Beautiful place to stay! There are 3 bedrooms, but 2 of them are connected and you have to go threw one of the bedrooms to get to the other. Place was great, just a heads up in case it's helpful.
Really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. The place was immaculate, the cottage was decorated beautifully, kitchen had everything you could need, it felt very comfortable and spacious. We especially enjoyed the wood stove. Found some wonderful local hikes. Would highly recommend and we plan to come back for another stay in the future. Thank you so much, Krista.

Krista's place in Thompson is a picture perfect New England cottage! The home was incredibly clean and well stocked with any/all amenities that could be needed. The decor was thoughtful and interesting, the beds were comfortable, and the neighborhood was quiet and peaceful. We appreciated Krista's very clear directions and instructions and had no reason to reach out for any additional information during our stay, but I'm confident she would have been quite responsive. If you are looking for a place near Douglas State Forest, you'll be hard pressed to find a better place than Krista's home near Thompson!
This a rural area. A vehicle is required to get around. The driveway has room for four standard size (car/ pickup truck) vehicles. Guests cannot park on or leave vehicles extending onto the roadway (it is a private road). Guests cannot park or drive on any of the "grassed/landscaped areas" because of sensitive utilities (septic/well).

The cottage is a 1-minute drive from Quaddick State Park with a smallish sand beach, picnic area, a 1.5-mile loop walking trail, and boat launch. I'm unable to put in a link, but a search of CT official state parks should take you there for additional information.
The cottage is 1 hour from Boston Logan Airport and 1 hour from Hartford, CT.
