The ex-pub is situated in a small village surrounded by green countryside, but within a 20 minute walk of central Oxford. It is a perfect getaway, offering tranquility as well as readily accessible jogging/walking/exploring territory, a local lake for free swimming, tennis courts, golf course, and heated outdoor swimming pool (during summer months) - all within a stone's throw. The spires of Oxford are visible across green fields from the bedroom window. The room is on the second floor of a large 18th century Cotswold village house. It has a large garden (including a parking space) and is looks over green fields with the spires of Oxford in the distance. There is a kitchen-cum-utility room for the use of guests. Guests will have open access to the garden.

I had a wonderful time! John and Isobel are very kind, hospitable and willing to help or provide anything if needed. They made me feel right at home and share the breakfast table with you. They received several guests simultaneously during my stay (and probably year long) which led to meeting all sorts of people and interesting conversations. Also, the surroundings are awesome. You can see the city but at the same time you are in a village with fields, cows, a big pond nearby and public footpaths. The room is spacious and has a great view.

The village, apparently, goes back to Roman times. There is a Norman church (St Lawrence) and many stone and thatched houses typical of the area. There are wonderful walks in the neighbourhood, from ‘Happy Valley’ leading to stunning views of Oxford; to exploring woods, streams and open fields; and wandering along the Thames.
Local facilities include a heated open-air swimming pool; a lake where the brave swim for free; free tennis courts; a golf course; as well as fishing and kayaking possibilities.
Parking is not a problem. It used to be a pub and we have kept a it of the car park. We are close to A34 so there is easy access to Abingdon and other local towns. But it’s best to walk into Oxford rather than driving and trying to find parking.
The country lane access to Oxford is dark at night - but we provide a torch for the fainthearted!

We are retired, having spent most of our lives teaching in various exotic places (Egypt, Tanzania, Peru and India). Isobel was a primary school teacher and I taught Maths and Physics. We enjoy languages, going for long walks and playing the violin/flute (at a very amateurish level!). And we still love traveling!
