Our trip was memorable from the moment we reached the area. We drove into a winter wonderland as the snow came down, almost looked like Narnia. Thankfully, with the weather, we were glad to have an AWD vehicle, which helped with the dirt road leading into the property. The whole area was quiet and peaceful. Due to the winter, it was incredibly cold and we had to use the rocket stove to keep warm. We chopped wood to feed the fire, which was a nice little workout and brought me back to my roots. We didn’t have a shower unfortunately because they only had an outdoor shower and it was too cold for the pump to be out there. There isn’t running water but the hosts provide plenty of water in containers to use (and a kettle if you want your water warm). They are very eco friendly and aware of their footprint on the world so this cabin is an ode to that. Using the compost bin toilet was definitely a first for us as well. Rachel and Brian were incredibly responsive and friendly during our stay.

If you’re looking to reconnect with nature and are up for the adventure of off-the-grid living, this is the perfect place! The cabin is secluded but with the peace of mind that Rachel & Brian are nearby. They are super responsive & friendly; I felt right at home. The property is peaceful & private, and there are plenty of towns & trails to explore nearby. Be sure to take the opportunity to disconnect and listen to the land while you are there! Thanks, Rachel & Brian, for an excellent stay. :)

My boyfriend and I had a delightful stay at Brain and Rachel’s cozy cabin! The property is beautiful and the dogs are friendly. Can’t wait to return!

I came to this cabin on a solo trip to finish a writing project, so my goals were: focused, peaceful solitude. It is an amazing deal for the privacy and amount of space you get to yourself. Can easily fit another person who you are comfortable sharing intimate space with. There's plenty to do if you are looking to get creative and spend time with your thoughts. Rachel and Brian were there waiting for me when I arrived. Brian walked me through the space and covered all the bases where I could have questions or concerns. This is an "off the grid" cabin so you will have to do a certain amount of labor to keep it comfortable for yourself. I always felt safe and looked out for. Rachel or Brian would pop by once a day to make sure I had enough wood, water, etc. And if you don't want to be bothered, they have a whole system for that! Lastly, Rachel and Brian are doing admirable work. They are care for this land and expect the same out of their guests. Great hosts. I can't wait to return!

This is an Airbnb experience like no other. The cabin is beautifully arrayed and the land and the lake are just stunning. You feel yourself pulled into it and letting go of everything that came before. It’s private and quiet, although the hosts are right up the road. And while GPS delivered me here without a wrong turn, I had no desire to tackle those winding, narrow roads until I had to. The place gave me what I needed: space for writing and reading, along with swims in the lovely lake, walks around the lake, bird watching, dragonfly gazing, frog listening, etc. Be aware that the place lacks certain modern amenities, like flush toilets and running water. I was okay with that and appreciated the opportunity to live more sustainably for a few days, although coming home to a hot bath was also nice! Also note there’s no Wi-Fi at the cabin, which is great for concentration and helps you disconnect, if that’s what you’re after.
