Bed-Stuy, first developed by wealthy German and Dutch immigrants in the mid-19th century, has since seen waves of demographic change. It remains a stronghold of black culture, nicknamed “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem.” Musicians and artists from Duke Ellington to Jay-Z, Spike Lee to Lil Kim, have memorialized what Bed-Stuy means to them. It is also home to Tracy Morgan, Mos Def, Jackie Gleason (I lived next door to his old apartment building on Chauncey Street!), Aja from Drag race, Biggie Smalls, Chris Rock, Shirley Chisholm, Jackie Robinson, Michael Jordan, Walt Whitman, and many others.
Bed-Stuy offers residents a dense urban feel. There are a lot of bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and parks. Many families and young professionals live here and residents tend to be liberal.
The heritage of activism and arts in the area is legendary. In its recent survey of nearly 40,000 people around the world, TimeOut asked local experts to share the coolest neighborhoods in their cities, and Bed-Stuy landed at #4 in the top 40.

The apartment is a five minute walk from the C, J, and L trains. These are all reliable and very convenient lines to be close to, making it a breeze to get all around Brooklyn and Manhattan. Seriously, you can get to anywhere you need to go very easily from here without paying Manhattan lodging prices 🤌😎
The J provides a 20 minute ride to the Lower East Side over the Williamsburg bridge (this train is above ground and a must experience for first timers—it travels above ground in Brooklyn and over the East River to Manhattan— skyline views!). The C provides a 35 minute ride to midtown Manhattan if that’s your destination (Times Square, Korea Town, Broadway shows). The L is very convenient for travel both in Brooklyn and Manhattan, and can take you right to the heart of trendy Williamsburg in about 20 minutes where there are lots of cool shops, restaurants, bars.
