Characteristic historic apartment well restored in charming tuscan village (medieval and baroque). Two double bedrooms + a double sofa bed in the livingroom (from 2 to 9 people, if necessary). Two full equipped bathrooms, livingroom, corner kitchen. Vacation apartment in the historical centre of PONTREMOLI (Italy, northern Tuscany), little medieval town (300 mt a.s.l), 30 Km far away from Tyrrenhian sea and Versilia's and Cinque terre's beaches. Close also to Zum Zeri and Cerreto Laghi Ski Resort. The house is a 100 Sq/Mt. apartment at the second level of an ancient building in the medieval centre of the town. The location is along the main street (Garibaldi Street) near the main northern Gate of the town (Porta Parma). The apartment (VIRTUAL TOUR) develops upon two levels, with an internal 14 steps staircase. At the first level there are a big living and dining room (40 Sq/m) with a full equipped kitchenette and a sofa bed for 2 people and a bathroom equipped with shower. A big sleeping room (20 Sq/m), with a double king size bed, an additional single bed and a baby cot, completes the first level. At the second level we have a second sleeping room with a double bed and two further single single beds. At this level there is also a bathroom equipped with tube and washing machine. The house has been completely renovated in year 2004 and it has independent gas heating system, hot water, drinkable water. The house is available round year. It is comfortable up to six people, but it can accommodate nine + one baby (a baby cot is available). It is possible to park the car very close to the house (100 mt.). In the streets all around it is possible to buy everything, due to a lot of different kind of shops, restaurants. Market on Saturday and Wednesday. Pontremoli is an ideal location to enjoy italian sea, italian mountains and historical towns like Pisa, Parma, Genoa, Carrara, Lucca, with the possibility to rest yourself at night in a fresh and not crowded village, as Pontremoli is. PONTREMOLI (230 mt a.s.l) (VIRTUAL TOUR) was founded 2.000 years ago in the Roman Era, as military and strategic outpost along the way to the Northern Italy, to control the Cisa Pass on Apennine Mountains. The chosen place was at the confluence of two trouts rivers (Verde and Magra), where the road crossed them with two bridges (Pons). After the fall of Roman Empire and up to the Middle Age, the road, named in that period "Via Francigena" (it means that leads to France), conserved its importance as one of the the main Pilgrim's routes to Rome. Of that period, the town conserves its medieval look, some Gates, towers and the panoramic Castle of Piagnaro, built on the hill dominating the town and the yet used medieval bridges. All the historical centre has a medieval look and feel, full of characteristic houses, churches and streets, especially the ones that lead to the Castle, but also the baroque period is well represented from imposing nobles palaces, expecially along the main road that crosses all the city from north to south. There are many cheap and good restaurants and you can buy a lot of typical local products: fresh cooked bread, sweets, chestnuts, mushrooms, local meat, ham and sausages, hand made pasta…..The local cuisine is also very interesting, with flat thin "testaroli" pasta, menus made with mushrooms, which grow thick on the ground in the woods of the Lunigiana's region and the chestnut flour which is made into ‘frittelle’, or fritters, while the cheeses and cold cuts made locally go perfectly with the genuine wines of the region. Due to the low altitude and the nearness to the sea, winter is mild and summer is not too much hot: the nights are always fresh. In winter is possible to reach two ski resorts at 17 (Zum Zeri) and 40 Km (Cerreto Laghi). The last week of July there is The Book Fair (Premio Bancarella), with a lot of exhibitions, music and possibilities to appreciate local foods. The last week of August Pontremoli is v"ivaded" by a medieval kermesse (Medievalis). Pontremoli is well linked to Parma and La Spezia, by train (there is a railway station) and motor road (A15 Parma-La Spezia, with exit at Pontremoli). By air: Pisa, Parma and Genoa airports (served by low cost companies as RyanAir, Hapag LLoyd) Florence airport, convenient train and bus connections. It is possible to go to Cinque Terre's sea villages by train in 40-50 minutes, starting from Pontremoli's Railways Station..
Vi havde et godt ophold i Claudios lejlighed, der er pæn og ren. Den ligger godt i hyggelige Pontremoli Vi manglede wifi og aircon, da meget varmt om natten og en del støj fra gaden. Men alt i alt et super sted.
First of all, Pontremoli is really an unique place to stay and Claudios flat is really in the historical center of Pontremoli. This is the main reason why we really loved our stay there. Although the flat is fully renovated, it still has some downsides of an old building. One of the things is that the upstairs bedroom is not really separate since there are just stairs and not any doors that separate it from the kitchen/living room. Other then that the flat is nice. However, altogether this is really a great place to stay!
Nice, updated apartment in one of the oldest sections of the medieval part of Pontremoli. Great location - 50 meters to parking at Porta Parma and the entrance for the Stele Museum. Across is Trattoria Pellicia which is very good. After entering the building, the common hallways are clean and pleasant. Apartment is on the top two floors with the top level a converted attico with skylights. Pictures are accurate. It is comfortable and clean and Claudio was very easy to work with. He's not local (he lives in Rome and this is a second home) but he was very responsive to questions via email. Pontremoli is a great little town where you can really get a feel for the real Italy. In addition to Pellicia, there are a number of really good restaurants - Caveau del Teatro, Bianco Oca, Della Luna and a recently re-opened Da Busse (owners supply honey to Eataly Torina). More casual options include San Francisco e Lupo and La Caverna dei Nani Birrai (which has a great vibe and energy - in addition to great beer, they make a pretty darn good burger). Finally, keep an eye open for when Bar Luciano is open in Piazza del Duomo - they basically make one drink - an apertivo called Bianca Oro which is a must have. It's the best €2 cocktail you'll ever have. The area around Porto Parma is a little challenged with cell/wifi signal (I knew this as we're remodeling a house there) and the apartment does not have wifi. But that can be solved with a wifi hotspot (I used one from TIM). There is an armoire on the top level right below a skylight. If you place a wifi hotspot on top of the armoire (useful to have an extension cord) you can get a pretty good 4G signal (download ~ 4mbps/upload ~1mbps). Bottom line - nice, clean comfortable apartment in a great little town with good food. Highly recommended.
Large and nice flat in the old town of Pontremoli, slept all 8 of us comfortably. No wifi, and there could have been more towels. Otherwise a well equipped flat, and a good experience.
Very nice apartment in the historic part of town. Close to all the cafes and restaurants. Great base for exploring Interesting castle with amazing views at the top of the town. 45 mins to the cinque terra from Pontremoli station. Comfortable apartment well equipped kitchen and added bonus of a dishwasher. No wifi and mobile phone reception in the apartment is not good, however the Swiss cafe in the square has free wifi for its customers. If I came back to the area I would love to stay in the apartment again.
