I would highly recommend Nature’s Retreat! The name is quite accurate, and if you are looking to really immerse yourself in a beautiful nature setting away from it all, this is the place. Our crew was nine friends from around the world who gathered here over New Year’s, and to give a sense of the experience, on NYE, we all waded out into the warm shallow bay surrounded by the tropical jungle and mountains, had the hosts turn off the electricity to the Retreat and welcomed in 2020 with the only lights being the stars and bright Milky Way above. Stunning. As were the bonfire the hosts built, the trips they took us on around the islands with the property’s catamaran, the massages they organized (so cheap and very very good) and the other tours they helped us arrange. In terms of the hosts, we cannot say enough good things about Sam, his family and his crew. They are incredibly kind and affable human beings, completely professional and on top of all of the logistics and always available for any assistance or advice. And a real bonus is that Sam and his wife are incredible cooks - we learned they own a restaurant in PP, and it showed in all the meals which were very well done. There is no question the place is rustic, and it is secluded (no neighbors). And that is its amazing charm. But don’t expect to be able to just pop in and out of town in 5-10 minutes on a whim. Our only caution is, before booking, check Air Swift for available flights in and out of El Nido Lio airport. Otherwise you have to fly in to Puerto Princesa and it’s about a 5-6 hour drive to the Retreat from there, depending on traffic. Shouldn’t be a problem if you look well enough in advance (which we failed to do) – so just a lesson learned. All in all, this was a really special trip for our group, and we would really recommend you consider it for yourself.

So overall I would say this is a fair rating (3.5) , the pictures didn’t really do this place justice as one would assume if they’re using the pictures depicted as reference which is what they’re usually posted up for, this place mostly consists of dirt besides the beach front which was kinda scarce of sand to begin with which can be kind of inconvenient with luggage hauling ect, the only bathroom depicted is pretty much the nicest one , all the other ones are kinda below standard given the fact you have to tell them to pump water when you wish to shower so that can be kind of a hassle since it has to be really premeditated. It’s a really long sketchy way to getting into the resort that also consists of dirt paths through the wilderness which is also not really that convenient. But on the pro side the hosts were very accommodating and helped us enjoy our stay with the hospitality that they offered. Helped us with the booking of the excursions in El Nido and fulfilling our requests to the best of their abilities with food and basic amenities.

Beautiful location with beautiful views out to the islands/ sea and great food. Sam and his staff were lovely. HOWEVER, the accommodation is basic which would have been fine if we were paying a fifth of the price we did... Honestly we left feeling quite let down (and with sickness and diarrhea). Of the 3 destinations we stayed in during our Palawan trip this was the most expensive and least inspiring - I wouldn't recommend.

Nature's Retreat is great! Sam, Ayden, Imelda, and rest of the crew do a fantastic job providing for everything you need while allowing plenty of privacy and independence. It seemed like every meal Imelda made was better than the previous, and the fresh fruit was unbeatable. The rooms, though simple, are extremely comfortable, and there were no mosquitoes when we visited (January- things may be very different other times of year of course). The beach is beautiful and sandy but the seafloor is shallow, uneven, and contains a fair amount of hazards; it's wonderful for relaxing and watching the waves crash, but if you want to swim, get the boys to take you to the offshore island (a 10 minute boat ride) or go to Macpan or other good swimming beaches. If you need to use WiFi, make sure to get a SIM card for your phone at the airport in Manila or elsewhere. But you should make it a point to enjoy the calmness and serenity of this facility anyway. I'd recommend Nature's Retreat for almost any group and would go back if I had the opportunity!
